Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a Civil Engineering Inspector/CAD Designer for full-time employment based in the Halifax, NS office.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of civil engineering technology, CAD, and have proven experience in the inspection/design of municipal infrastructure. They will be expected to work within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. They will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done. The successful candidate will be expected to support in the delivery of infrastructure to customers primarily within the municipal water, wastewater and stormwater sector.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Design for municipal infrastructure using AutoCAD Civil 3D, BIM Software and MicroStation
- Prepare civil design drawings and design calculations
- Working on complex data sets in conjunction with other CAD and GIS technical staff
- Assist CAD manager to train and mentor junior CAD staff using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016 and current versions
- Assure that engineering related issues are promptly relayed to the Project Manager for action and follows up to assure timeliness of resolution efforts
- Ensuring overall data quality and integrity
- Inspect all phases of construction to ensure that the work is carried out in accordance to specifications regarding material requirements, alignment, grade, finish, compaction, etc.
- Document the site conditions, equipment, manpower usage, material installations, quantities and the work being performed by the Contractor
- Confirm that all onsite testing during installation are in conformance with the Contract Specifications
- Respond to contractor and public inquiries
- Ensures deficiencies are corrected prior to acceptance of the work
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field + 4 years of related experience or Diploma/Certificate + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering
- AutoCAD Civil 3D experience with surface creation, alignment/profile, pipe design, and data management
- Experience with standard coordinate systems, elevation datums, and datum conversions
- Strong AutoCAD Civil 3D design experience with ability to visualize and communicate using BIM models.
- Technical or Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology (or equivalent)
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Certified or eligible for certification as a CET and a member of TechNova (or provincial equivalent)
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and clients
- Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Ability to effectively manage design time and coordination to deliver projects
- Ability to work in field or office conditions, and work and communicate with clients, contractors and other AECOM staff
- Experience with complex designs including surface grading, road corridors, water and sewer pipe networks for municipal, transportation or land development projects

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $72,000.00 - $90,000.00.
