The Opportunity

McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineering Designer to join our Edmonton branch with a focus on supporting Transportation & Municipal Infrastructure Engineering projects. We are seeking strong communicators with excellent design skills and experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and associated design packages.

Our transportation projects include various rural and urban road improvement projects, streetscapes, roundabouts, and municipal underground reconstruction. The successful candidate will use their strong technical skills on a variety of design projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Contribute to the cost effective and timely production of engineering designs, including roadways, drainage, and utilities that meet all client and approval agency requirements and standards.
  • Transform roadway and municipal preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans, and project informational requirements, using primarily AutoCAD / Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed.
  • Coordinate and/or complete the preparation of documents required for approvals and assist with development of construction cost estimates, quantities, tender documents and contracts.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree / Diploma in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited university or college with 2-5 years of experience in similar role.
  • Proficiency in design and drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D Software is essential. Experience with CAD/Mapping/GIS software is an asset.
  • Currently registered, or qualified to register as a Technologist with ASET or registered or qualified to register as an Engineer with APEGA.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and flexibility to manage changing priorities on short notice.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a busy and high-performing team.

The salary range for this position is $73,000 to $85,000 per annum, depending on education and years of experience. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
