For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in civil engineering. The successful candidate must possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada's largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation. Once processed, the metal concentrates are exported overseas, where the majority is sold under long-term sales contracts to smelters.

Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences. From golfing in the spring, to camping in the summer, and skiing in the winter, Logan Lake provides excellent access to the wilderness that makes it a great place to start your adventure!

Salary Range: $4,700 - $6,000 / Month

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.

Responsibilities
  1. Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  2. Participation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
  3. Update data systems and prepare internal communication
  4. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to build and use detailed designs for civil projects on site
  5. Assist with coordinating civil projects on active mine sites as well as organize, schedule, and control the cost of projects; providing status reports on progress
  6. Prepare quantity take-off and cost analysis
  7. Planning, scheduling, and managing construction contractors as well as monitoring progress
  8. Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business

Qualifications
  1. Working towards an Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering
  2. Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  3. Comfortable working in a dynamic work environment, with a willingness to work outdoors, and able to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrain
  4. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
  5. Previous work experience in a technical or engineering environment is an asset
  6. Experience with form design, macros, and data analysis is an asset
  7. Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications: Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access
  8. Experience with AutoCAD and Civil3D would be an asset
  9. Able to work efficiently independently as well as part of the team
  10. Proven ability to learn innovative technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently
  11. Ability to communicate with precision in a technical environment
  12. Able to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand
  13. A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co-op is required

All students will be required to complete a pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.
