Job description

Técnicas Reunidas Canada E&C inc. is part of the Técnicas Reunidas Group, a global leader in engineering, procurement and construction services for energy and large-scale industrial projects.

We are seeking a Civil Engineer – Steel Structure Designer/Engineer to join our engineering project team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the detailed design and review of structural steel systems for industrial facilities, including buildings, pipe racks, equipment supports, and related structures used in EPC projects across Alberta and British Columbia. This role requires ensuring structural integrity, constructability, and compliance with applicable provincial regulations, industry standards, and steel design codes.

  • Participate in the detailed structural design and engineering execution of large-scale EPC projects located in Alberta, British Columbia, and other Canadian provinces.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve structural steel drawings, 3D models, and complex structural calculations to ensure accuracy, safety, and constructability.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of Alberta and British Columbia steel fabrication and building codes, including CSA S16, CSA W59, and the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) with applicable provincial amendments, to all project deliverables.
  • Review and provide detailed comments on vendor drawings and fabrication packages, identifying and correcting design elements that do not comply with applicable Alberta and British Columbia requirements.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (piping, mechanical, and process) to resolve spatial clashes, define loading criteria, and ensure proper structural support for static and dynamic equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance on steel connections, material grades, and welding specifications suitable for Western Canadian environmental conditions, including extreme cold-weather applications.
  • Conduct technical assessments to ensure all structural deliverables meet applicable safety standards, quality requirements, and client specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive civil/structural engineering experience, with a strong focus on steel structures within heavy industrial or EPC environments.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with APEGA (Alberta) and/or EGBC (British Columbia) is required.
  • Strong experience in structural calculations, vendor drawing review, and cross-discipline coordination, with in-depth knowledge of regional steel design codes (e.g., CSA S16).
  • Familiarity with Alberta and British Columbia building and fabrication codes, including CSA S16, CSA W59, and the National Building Code of Canada (NBC).
  • Experience executing detailed engineering design for EPC projects, ensuring compliance with applicable steel fabrication codes and Western Canadian requirements.

Reasons to join our team:

  • Be part of a global organization delivering cutting-edge energy and industrial solutions.
  • Work on impactful projects that shape the future of energy in Canada.
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment with room for professional growth.
