Be our next Civil Engineer, Mining

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will join the Mining team, based in Sudbury, North Bay, Thunder Bay, Hamilton, or Brampton offices.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

1. Complete engineering calculations and models for assessments, including seepage and stability, pipe and drainage ditch design, hydrology and hydraulics plans, erosion, solids settling, alternative cover demonstrations, geochemistry, and statistics.
2. Assist the Director of Engineering, civil engineers, and EITs with project scope, cost, and schedule delivery.
3. Prepare technical specifications based on input from other disciplines.
4. Plan and execute field exploration programs, including soil boring, test pit logging, well installation, development, and sampling.
5. Contribute to engineering, operating, and capital cost estimates.
6. Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, designers, technicians, and technologists.
7. Manage projects related to capital and maintenance works.
8. Conduct construction observation and quality assurance testing for Geosynthetics or Earthworks on large civil or power projects.
9. Prepare reports supporting engineering design and construction documents.
10. Develop grading plans and designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
11. Assist in writing reports, cost estimates, specifications, and permit documents with senior technical review.

What Your Experience Looks Like

1. Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering with eligibility for PEO registration.
2. Minimum 10 years of civil engineering design experience in mining or industrial projects from conceptual to detailed design.
3. Experience in site development, pipe and open channel hydraulics, and mine access road design.
4. Experience with tailings/slurry piping design is an asset.
5. Knowledge of piping materials, fittings, and joining methods.
6. Experience in stormwater management, runoff calculations, and designing ditches, culverts, and ponds.
7. Understanding of coordinate systems and survey controls.
8. Experience interpreting and applying geotechnical recommendations.
9. Proficiency in technical report writing, specifications, and material take-offs for cost estimates.
10. Experience in procurement and evaluating construction and supply contracts.
11. Strong organizational, technical, communication, and computer skills.
12. Knowledge of civil design standards, industry codes, mining laws, and construction methods.
