CIVIL ENGINEER-IN-TRAINING

Location of Position - Langdon, ND

$70k - $85K

Fischer Land Surveying & Engineering of Langdon, ND is seeking an Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our company. Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in civil or construction engineering. We primarily serve NE ND and NW MN but have also done work across the state of ND. We have continued to grow our client base and projects over the past 28 years, striving to provide the most accurate and quality services for our clients. We are a small company where every employee plays an important role. We design open channel drains and have helped create 30 assessment drains in northeastern ND. The advantage of working for a small firm is you get to take a project from conception to construction. In addition, we do other engineering projects such as site design and layout for convenience stores, agricultural facilities and commercial buildings.

Full-time M-F. Wage depending on experience. $70,000-$85,000

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Manage small to mid-size projects, client and contractor agreements and budgets.
  2. Effectively write and prepare technical engineering reports, plans, and specifications for construction projects.
  3. Assist in field operations as needed; this may include construction inspection, survey, and other forms of field engineering. Oversee construction activities and compliance with construction documents.
  4. Consult with clients and contractors to plan and develop strategies for their civil engineering design and support needs. Provide general oversight with contractors and sub-contractors.
  5. Gather field survey data to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, contours, etc., through conventional surveying and GPS methods. Prepare accurate field notes, drawings, and records of changes in conditions while in the field.
  6. Ensure schedules and productivity objectives are achieved.
  7. Candidate may be required to assist with land surveying as needed. Training will be provided.
  8. Ensure work vehicle is supplied with stakes, flagging, lath, etc.
  9. Responsible for tracking oil changes or routine maintenance on survey vehicles or UTVs to schedule timely maintenance.
  10. This job description is not exhaustive. Other duties may be assigned.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Construction Engineering with coursework in hydrology/hydraulics, soil mechanics/construction, and business coursework. Must have passed the FE exam and have 2+ years of experience. Experience in municipal/buildings and highway design is preferred. A desire to pursue a PE license is a plus.
  • Excellent computer and technical skills, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Civil 3D.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to think independently, with strong listening, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Must communicate clearly in English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with initiative and timeliness.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to pass a drug test if required.
  • Capable of outdoor and indoor work, lifting 50-75 lbs, manual field labor, walking on uneven terrain, and standing or walking for long periods.
  • Proven work ethic and reliable commute or willingness to relocate.

The candidate should enjoy living in a small rural town with many amenities and outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, golfing, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, ATVing, snowmobiling, kayaking, and hockey. Langdon has a population of around 1,900 and offers a close-knit community experience. Opportunities exist to become dual licensed as a Professional Engineer and a Professional Land Surveyor.
