Position Overview

Kiewit has an immediate opening for a Civil Designer to join our Power Engineering Group.

District Overview

Kiewit Power Engineers brings various project types to life across North America, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables, and new technology, and water/wastewater. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit's construction teams to focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that meet client expectations and further Kiewit's legacy of excellence.

Location

This position is based out of Calgary, AB. Opportunities for flexible work are available.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist with modeling, both 2D and 3D, ensuring correct reference files are attached and model reference directory is up to date; develop models utilizing drawings, sketches, and design skills.
  2. Coordinate with project team by utilizing the Project Database; report project progression updates and issues to Lead Designer as required.
  3. Assist in the review of designs for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance requirements before submitting for checking.
  4. Help create guidelines, checklists, or other applicable knowledge base documents as assigned.
  5. Collaborate with team members in design and drafting techniques to challenge abilities; provide constructive feedback to aid in employee development.
  6. Collaborate with various discipline and subsidiary groups to provide expertise and support business needs.
  7. Assist in the completion of as-builts by utilizing RFIs, ECNs, and red-marked drawings from construction to develop “Conformed to Construction Records” as required.
  8. Participate in project and layout meetings; coordinate and assist in activities of project team members.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in drafting technology and 3-5+ years of civil design experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in utilizing a Computer-Aided Drafting program such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D. Support background using AutoCAD, MicroStation, GeoPak, InRoads, Navis Works, Google Earth is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Effective communication skills via email and electronic meeting tools.
  • Experience with solar PV layouts is preferred.
