Rooted in our foundation as Kingdom House since 1902, our mission is to help individuals and families achieve economic well-being by providing high-impact, relationship-based programming and by addressing systemic barriers to their success.

Position Summary:

The Civic Engagement & Events Department is composed of our ongoing volunteer engagement programming, service-learning immersion program, and fundraising & participant-facing event management. The Civic Engagement and Events Coordinator will have responsibilities with each. Ongoing volunteer programs and fundraising events provide both individuals and groups with opportunities to assist the agency in acting out its mission while service learning programming provides expert guidance in social justice education through an array of on and off site immersion opportunities. This position works closely with all departmental staff to provide meaningful service opportunities to over 150 individual, ongoing volunteers who assist in the delivery of LifeWise StL’s programs and services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Ongoing Volunteer Program

• Meets regularly with LifeWise StL program staff to discover, develop, and maintain current information on volunteer opportunities for individuals.

• Communicate service opportunities to the public via internet, volunteer fairs & community partners, and other relevant employees of the agency to recruit volunteers to fill agency needs.

• Fields and responds promptly to all communications regarding individual volunteer requests.

• Ensures that volunteers are properly screened and oriented from point of initial contact with agency (background checks, checking references, interviewing, preparing materials for orientation, etc.). Links volunteers to departmental staff in order to ensure appropriate placement, training, and ongoing supervision.

• Maintains all files and forms according to established procedures and assists with maintaining volunteer program certification through the United Way.

• Captures and analyzes volunteer demographics to communicate most current needs and trends; works in concert with departmental staff to maintain information in volunteer management software (Volgistics).

• Coordinates, in collaboration with department staff, regular appreciation of organization’s volunteers.

• Assists with participant-facing special events (Back to School Event and Holiday Market) as well as when multiple and/or large volunteer groups are scheduled.
• Ensures that volunteers work in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment.

• Collaborates with other local & national organizations in order to foster increasing cooperation among agencies in the St. Louis region and beyond.

• Provides monthly and annual reports about volunteer activity to the Director.

• Participates in departmental meetings and activities.

Service-Learning Immersion Program (Urban Forum, Traveling Reflection & Immersion Program)

• Together with departmental staff, continually develops and revises a robust body of curricula focusing on issues associated with poverty and marginalized communities that produces knowledgeable, conscientious, and active citizens.

• Collaborates internally with program staff to assess program needs in order to address topics that are relevant to the organization and those whom it serves.

• Networks externally with primary stakeholders (churches, universities, nonprofits, and businesses) to inform constituents of educational opportunities and build appropriate curricula based on stakeholder’s mission and values and organization’s expressed needs.

• Coordinates service projects and facilitates education/reflection sessions for on-site service learning programs that enable both youth and adult volunteers to learn more fully from their volunteer experience as well as explore avenues for future engagement with regard to service and social justice issues.

• Facilitates sessions/workshops at offsite locations for youth and adult participants that raise awareness of and increase knowledge regarding social justice and community issues, connect to the organization’s (church, university, nonprofit, and/or business) mission and values, and provide resources for further learning and action.

• Collects feedback in order to measure effectiveness of curricula as well as impact of the program on participants.

Fundraising Events

• Manage Event/Auction database (QGiv) including event sponsorship/registration page, silent auction page, and serve as the point of contact for inquiries from attendees regarding event registration.
• Collaborate with Civic Engagement, Marketing/Development staff, and volunteers to execute database functions during events (Check-In/Check Out, Silent/Live Auction,Fund A Need, etc.)
• Following event, work together with Marketing/Development staff to finalize transactions and provide documentation to attendees as appropriate

Experience/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, nonprofit management or equivalent experience preferred

• Prior experience in volunteer engagement and/or event management

• Previous experience developing/facilitating learning sessions for people of all ages

• Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple and varied projects and meet deadlines.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with organizational leadership, volunteers, and colleagues from within and outside the organization

• Familiarity with CRM systems (particularly Volgistics, Bloomerang/QGiv)

• Ability to work as a part of a team of mission-oriented staff who partner with a variety of volunteers to provide holistic services to families participating in LifeWise StL programming

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

• Occasional evening and weekend activities

• Travel may be required for meetings with individuals or groups

• Moderate physical effort with handling of supplies/materials up to 50lbs on an infrequent basis.

• Driving of trucks and cargo/passenger vans for events (Back to School, Affordable Holiday Market, etc.)
