Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers, supporting the selling process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where applicable) and/or straight trucks.
2. Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
3. Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from tractors and trailers.
4. Handle freight using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
5. Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
6. Recoup or repair damaged freight when necessary.
7. Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
8. Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
9. Collect freight charges via cash or checks and maintain documentation.
10. Follow dispatch instructions, communicating delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
11. Communicate with customers regarding pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
12. Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
13. Seek additional business opportunities from customers and relay leads to sales.
14. Perform chaining of vehicle tires if required.
15. Perform duties of a road driver or dock employee as operationally necessary.
16. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Possess a valid Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements; automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• Have at least one year of recent driving experience or have completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of FMCSA regulations.
• Operate Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) in specified states, meeting qualification standards.
• Basic math skills, including counting and performing calculations.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift and carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds multiple times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, and perform physical activities like bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing.
• Follow instructions and complete required training.
• Work independently and in team settings.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Drive on various roads and weather conditions.
• Expose to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials.
• Hours may vary based on operational needs.

*Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.

Pay Transparency: Compensation reflects the pay range or rate for this position. Actual pay depends on experience, performance, and other factors. Benefits include health, vision, dental insurance, paid time off, 401(k), bonuses, tuition reimbursement, and more.

Pay: Hourly range: $30.35 - $35.13; linehaul mileage pay: $0.6953 - $0.8049 per mile, plus fixed pay for tasks.

Starting Rate of Pay: $30.35/hour
