Job summary

Autism Services in Canada seeks an experienced accountant to support municipal financial operations, providing accounting, analysis, reporting and capital project management. You will oversee AP/AR, GL, monthly reporting, year-end processes and audit liaison.

You should hold a relevant degree, have strong accounting knowledge, and be able to work with multiple departments to deliver accurate financial information and guidance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in commerce, business admin, accounting or related field.
  • CPA designation is an asset and a plus for the role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and public-sector practices.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee accounting functions including AP/AR, billing, tax, cash receipts and GL.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, reconciliations, journal entries and variance analysis.
  • Coordinate year-end reporting and the annual audit process with external auditors.
  • Maintain tangible capital asset registry and capital project accounting.
  • Monitor capital expenditures and ensure adherence to budgets.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and financial analysis and presentations.
  • Prepare provincial, federal and statistical reports; assist with grants.
  • Develop financial procedures and assist with projects and policies.
  • Collaborate with city departments to resolve issues and provide guidance.
  • Maintain financial information for the city website and support financial communications.

Job description

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will support the Citys financial operations and provide accounting, financial analysis, reporting, and capital financial management services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform and oversee accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, taxation, cash receipting, and general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
  • Coordinate year-end financial reporting and the annual audit process, including liaison with external auditors.
  • Maintain the Citys Tangible Capital Asset Registry and ensure accurate accounting for capital projects.
  • Monitor capital project expenditures and ensure projects remain within approved budgets.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, financial analysis, and budget presentations.
  • Prepare required provincial, federal, and statistical reports and assist with grant applications and reporting.
  • Develop and recommend financial procedures and policies and assist with financial projects.
  • Work collaboratively with City departments to resolve financial issues and provide financial guidance.
  • Maintain financial information for the Citys website and support financial communications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Commerce, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Possession of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices, preferably in a public-sector environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Municipal or public-sector accounting experience is considered an asset.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00 am 5:00 pm (37.5 hours per week).
