Job description

This is a regular part-time support staff Bargaining Unit position reporting to the Manager, Centre of Access Programs, working 24 hours per week at an hourly rate of $26.46.

This is a less than 12-month position—meaning it is a permanent role working 8 months of the year. The employment period is typically from the last week of August to the last week of April. Ideally, the successful candidate can start as soon as possible.

You will need to be available for a flexible schedule as class times vary and will change from term to term based on student needs.

This position assists the CICE student to maximize his/her learning potential. The incumbent advocates, intervenes, and acts on behalf of the CICE student with faculty, other College students, and College-wide services. The Learning Specialist is responsible for modifying course outlines, tests, and assignments in collaboration with the faculty.

Specific Accountabilities :

  1. Modifies course materials, tests, and assignments in collaboration with faculty
  2. Develops and recommends policies and procedures for the administration of the work unit
  3. Provides data to decision-makers to determine the best course of action
  4. Responds to the needs of service users by coordinating all details of learning initiatives
  5. Performs other responsibilities as required

Qualifications :

  • Two-year Educational Assistant diploma, Developmental Service Worker diploma, Child and Youth Worker diploma, Social Service Worker diploma, or 2-3 years of carpentry/welding experience
  • 1-3 years of experience with persons with developmental disabilities, significant learning challenges, and in teaching/tutoring environments
  • Mental health training is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing educational/learning strategies; Microsoft Teams, D2L experience is required
  • Possess advocacy skills and willingness to participate in marketing events
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with professionalism, diplomacy, and patience
  • Computer fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and demonstrate initiative
  • Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills
  • Effective team player
