Job summary

Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Ontario in the Niagara Region is seeking a Church and Community Engagement Associate. This part-time role (0.6 FTE) focuses on building relationships with churches, volunteers and community partners to deepen MCC’s relief, development and peacebuilding work.

Based in St. Catharines, you will coordinate outreach, coordinate learning experiences, and support donor engagement while traveling within the Niagara region and beyond as needed.

Church and Community Engagement Associate, Niagara Region

Job Synopsis

The Church and Community Engagement Associate serves as a relationship-builder and ambassador for MCC Ontario in the Niagara Region, cultivating meaningful connections with churches, volunteers, donors, community organizations, schools, and other supporters. The Associate strengthens participation in MCC’s relief, development, and peacebuilding mission by facilitating learning, supporting volunteer and community engagement, and creating opportunities for service, advocacy, and giving. Working from the St. Catharines office and throughout the Niagara Region, the Associate collaborates with local and provincial MCC teams to deepen MCC’s presence and encourage people to work together across theological, cultural, and socioeconomic differences. MCC is a charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations worldwide to walk with people who are disadvantaged. MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence. As an internationally recognized NGO, MCC currently serves in more than 45 countries with over 475 partners, 1,000 staff and 40,000 volunteers.

Additional Details

This role will be 22.5 hours per week, primarily working out of the MCC office in St. Catharines or connecting with church groups and partners at other locations in the Niagara region. Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada for the duration of their employment. Successful candidates will be required to provide a Police Background Check upon hire.

• Commitment to personal Christian faith and discipleship, active church membership, and biblical nonviolent peacemaking.
• Strong understanding of Anabaptist theology, church practices, and congregational contexts.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate MCC’s mission and programs to varied audiences.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with people representing diverse cultural, theological, and socioeconomic perspectives.
• Experience in community, church, volunteer, or stakeholder engagement.
• Experience facilitating presentations, educational activities, group discussions, or community learning opportunities.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to independently prioritize varied responsibilities.
• Experience maintaining accurate activity, partnership, or donor information in a database or comparable information-management system.
• Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and virtual communication tools.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
• A bachelor’s degree in theology, education, peace and conflict studies, psychology, social sciences, or a related field, plus relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to travel regularly within the Niagara Region and occasionally elsewhere in Ontario.
• Valid Ontario G driver’s licence and access to reliable transportation.

Preferred

• Two to four years of related experience in church or community engagement, facilitation, adult education, volunteer engagement, coaching, stakeholder development, or change-focused initiatives.
• Familiarity with MCC Ontario’s programs, constituencies, and supporter communities.
• Experience working in a culturally and theologically diverse environment.
• Experience supporting donor enragement, fundraising events, or awareness campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain relationships with Anabaptist congregations, other faith communities, church leaders, volunteers, supporters, and community partners throughout the Niagara Region.
• Collaborate with MCC Ontario teams to identify and prioritize opportunities that deepen church and community engagement with MCC’s mission.
• Coordinate and deliver presentations, mission moments, learning experiences, and other educational opportunities that increase awareness of MCC’s relief, development, and peacebuilding work.
• Create opportunities for congregations and community groups to participate in service, advocacy, learning, giving, campaigns, events, and relief initiatives.
• Recruit, onboard, welcome, and support volunteers participating in MCC programs, events, and initiatives.
• Facilitate respectful engagement across theological, cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic differences to strengthen collaborative peacebuilding and community development.
• Promote MCC Ontario and MCC global programs, events, learning opportunities, and campaigns within churches and the broader community.
• Represent MCC at church gatherings, community events, celebrations, and networking opportunities, serving as a visible MCC presence in the Niagara Region.
• Build relationships with community organizations, schools, service clubs, local leaders, and existing partners to advance shared priorities and MCC’s mission.
• Coordinate the receipt or collection of Material Resources donations and ensure that required donor and donation information is accurately recorded.

• Coordinate day-to-day Niagara office logistics and serve as the primary local contact for MCC Facilities and Finance.
• Help coordinate office coverage and respond appropriately to telephone, email, and in-person inquiries at the St. Catharines location.
• Maintain accurate records of donations, program activities, partnerships, and engagement outcomes in relevant databases.
• Coordinate regional transportation arrangements for Material Resources and other MCC program goods in collaboration with the appropriate teams.
• Support the development and distribution of regional communications and engagement materials.

• Support regional fundraising events, donor engagement activities, and awareness campaigns, including annual Material Resources and Donor Relations events in the Niagara Region.
• Encourage participation in MCC learning tours, relief sales, special campaigns, and other engagement opportunities.
• Support donor stewardship by communicating the purpose and impact of contributions in collaboration with Donor Relations staff.

Salary Details

Base salary: $39,213 - The salary stated is an annual amount. This role starts on day 1 with a company paid benefit package

Group benefits package is employer-paid and includes supplemental medical/dental/vision, life insurance, AD&D, global medical assistance, EAP and RRSP contributions matched - starts on day one. LTD premiums are the responsibility of all permanent, salaried positions. Premiums are the responsibility of the team member and are paid through salary deduction.
