Position Purpose summary:

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to other. The Christmas Kettle Coordinator position is a short-term contract position. The successful candidate is responsible for oversight of several Christmas Kettle locations in a given geographical zone area. Zone locations include shopping malls, grocery stores and retail outlets. They organize, direct, and supervise the work performed by Christmas Kettle Campaign Workers. They will also ensure adequate staffing is met prior to and during each shift.

Accountabilities

Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below:

  • Attend a day of training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Provide support in getting Kettles to zone locations prior to staff and/or volunteer’s arrival at Campaign onset.
  • Ensure all Kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift completion.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Orient and remind staff/volunteers on proper Kettle handling and duties as required.
  • Supervise, support and assign (as required) staff and/or volunteers throughout the Campaign.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and timely (weekly basis).
  • Remain at the Kettle for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received.
  • Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding SA ministries and programs.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Oversee the operations of the Christmas Kettle campaign including scheduling of staff and/or volunteers.
  • Will participate in recruitment of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Orientation and performance management of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Coordinate the schedule for kettle staff and/or volunteers and respond to emergency absences, etc.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations; may deliver and pick-up kettles in an emergency situation.
  • Host at a kettle as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, etc.
  • Ensure that kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly time sheets as required.
  • Post campaign; organize retrieval of all equipment/supplies from various kettle locations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Financial And Materials Management
  • Collect donations and petty cash and ensure donations are always kept secure.
  • Responsible for the solicitation and secure, safe keeping of donated goods.
  • This position is involved in minor financial matters regularly or on a relief basis and has the responsibility for the wise use of resources.
  • May be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash.
  • This position has very little input in annual budget or revenue projections.
Working Conditions
  • This is a temporary position ending January 8, 2027.
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
  • Work environment is typically in malls/stores
  • Standing for long periods will be required and exposure to cold weather
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
  • Local travel is associated with this position.
Education, Qualifications And Certifications
  • Some high school coursework, completion of high school is an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements
  • 1-2 Years of related experience working in customer service.
  • Money handling experience is an asset.
  • Volunteer coordination experience is an asset.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience is an asset.
  • Working understanding budgets and financial record keeping.
  • Knowledge of available community resources is considered an asset.
  • Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).
Skills And Capabilities
  • Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced office setting; attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lift/move 9 to 12 kgs (20 – 25 lbs.)

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $16.50 to $19.89 with a maximum of $23.86. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
