Join to apply for the Children & Youth Course Instructor role at Art Gallery of Ontario

Temporary Part-time

(Up to 24 hours per week; Summer Camp shifts run Monday to Friday 9:30am-3:30pm, with extended hours until 4pm on some Fridays.)

ART + AUDIENCE + LEARNING

Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from contemporary art to Indigenous, Canadian, and European masterpieces.

We are seeking Temporary Part-time Children & Youth Course Instructors to join our Education & Programming team. This role supports our seasonal AGO Art Camp programming.

Under the guidance of the Manager, Learning and Studio Programming, the instructor will conduct art courses, demonstrate techniques, discuss materials, and engage with target audiences throughout the year.

The pay rate is $37.69 - $47.08 per hour.

Responsibilities
  1. Instruct students on visual arts practices through discourse, demonstrations, and references to collections and personal work.
  2. Develop and submit comprehensive course outlines for approval.
  3. Determine materials, equipment, and support needs for each course, and coordinate requests with the Manager and Chief Technician.
Qualifications
  1. Extensive knowledge and experience in relevant art mediums and concepts, including art history and theory.
  2. Experience teaching children and youth, with demonstrated teaching methodologies suitable for the age group.
  3. Recent public exhibition or publication of work, post-secondary education in art and education, and knowledge of art history.
  4. Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  5. Working knowledge of the AGO collection.
  6. Proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, email).
