Position Overview

The Support Aide provides support, resources, supervision, and leadership to ensure one-on-one care for assigned children in accordance with the program's goals, curriculum, philosophy, and policies of 1st Class, while strictly complying with the Alberta Childcare Licensing Act.

The Childcare Support Aide reports to the Executive Director and Management.

Responsibilities

  • Work specifically with children requiring additional support and assist the team as needed.
  • Contribute ideas based on thoughtful knowledge towards planning for children with additional needs.
  • Develop and maintain positive communication and relationships with parents.
  • Establish and implement a daily activity schedule that includes child-directed activities, care routines, and transition times.
  • Supervise children in both structured (classroom) and unstructured (free play, hallways, lunch, etc.) settings, ensuring appropriate supervision at all times.
  • Support children's inclusion in programming and activities.
  • Assist children with physical and personal care needs.
  • Help prepare materials and perform other duties as required by the Executive Director and Management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Level 1 - Early Childhood Educator Certificate (or ability to complete within 2 months of hire).
  • Flexible schedule and availability during all program hours, including shift coverage.
  • Up-to-date Police Clearance (or ability to obtain immediately upon hire).
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certificates (or ability to complete upon hire).

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stand, squat, or crouch to child's level.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergencies.
  • Part-time hours: up to 25-30 hours, with potential for full-time hours between 37-40 hours.
