Job description

We are looking for a full time Childcare Professional to join our YW Kids team.

This role works closely with team members to ensure efficient and effective day to day childcare operations and to foster an inclusive early learning environment. We are looking for an individual who demonstrates a passion for working with children ages 0 to 3 and is skilled at meeting their emotional, social, and physical developmental needs.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8 : 30 a.m. to 5 : 30 p.m. at our Community Hub location : 1715 – 17 Avenue SE Calgary

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Provide attuned and responsive day-to-day care, guidance and programming for children in a safe, secure and consistent team environment.
  • Implement programming that supports child development through play.
  • Maintain a child-friendly, stimulating playroom environment with age-appropriate games and activities.
  • Arrange for appropriate playroom décor that incorporates multiculturalism and diversity.
  • Interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner and encourage their involvement in outdoor and indoor activities.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and provide care in a manner that is sensitive to individual child differences, interests and needs; adjust care and tailor activities to meet those interests and needs.
  • Allow children to lead play and be autonomous in making decisions.
  • Ensure children’s health, safety and well-being through constant and effective supervision.
  • Maintain daily attendance and administrative records according to program and licensing standards.
  • Establish and foster relationships with families; maintain strong communication with parents daily using Lillio, notes and / or verbally.
  • Maintain an understanding of the Canada Food Guidelines (CFG) and verify that meals and snacks are in compliance with the Canada Food Guide.
  • Oversee meal and snack time activities; provide diapering and toileting support.
  • Stay informed of new and emerging trends and practices in the field of early learning childcare.
  • Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary’s success.
  • Understand YW Calgary’s Health, Safety and Wellness (HS&W) policies, practices and protocols; ensure work is performed safely and in alignment with YW’s HS&W culture.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Completion of an Early Learning and Child Care certificate program; a diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education is an asset.
  • Level 2 or 3 Early Childhood Educator Certification required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a childcare setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Alberta’s childcare regulations and health standards for childcare.
  • Child Care First Aid & CPR.
  • Brain Story certification or completion within 3 months of hire.
  • Familiar with Flight : Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework with willingness to learn and implement.
  • Knowledge of family violence and trauma-informed care is an asset.
  • Highly professional, reliable, and punctual.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Approaches work and others through the lens of equity, diversity, and inclusivity and skilled at creating an environment of trust and respect.
  • Sound judgement and demonstrated ability to mitigate risk and react quickly to ensure the safety of children.
  • Flexible and creative; ability to adapt and modify activities and play if necessary; open to implement new and different ideas in a team environment.
  • Skilled at remaining calm in a challenging and dynamic environment.
  • Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Record Check is required upon hire.
  • Ability to sit, bend, kneel and lift up to 30 lbs. while interacting and playing with children; including outdoor play.
