Job summary

Mothercraft is opening a new Village Gate Centre for Early Development and seeks a Manager to lead the team and ensure a safe, nurturing learning environment. You will collaborate with educators and support staff to deliver high-quality care and education.

Your background in ECE, with 3+ years in management and knowledge of licensing standards, will help you drive program excellence and staff development, while aligning with Mothercraft's frameworks.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in childcare and 3 years in management, incl. infant/toddler care.
  • Registration with the College of ECE is required.
  • Strong knowledge of licensing regulations and quality assessments.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and complete health checks per policy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of RECEs and ECAs in the new Village Gate Centre.
  • Ensure services follow Mothercraft frameworks and policies.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance to ensure high-quality care.
  • Guide programs using How Does Learning Happen and ELECT.
  • Collaborate with HR to recruit, hire, and train staff.
  • Provide mentoring and annual performance reviews.
  • Assist budget planning and manage revenues and expenses.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Services for facilities, IT, HR support.

At Mothercraft, we are dedicated to providing exceptional child care and early learning experiences that promote healthy development for all families. Our centers for Early Development (CEDs) embody this commitment, offering enriching full day programs for children aged 3 months to 4 years. We currently operate five child care centers, Brookfield Place, Eaton Center, Robertson House, Midtown, and Avondale and are opening three new centers, York Heights, Village Gate, and Norton Lake. Our CEDs are designed to support busy families while providing a safe and nurturing environment where children can excel.

As a Manager, Centre for Early Development, you will…
  • Report to the Associate Director, Centers for Early Development and manage a team of Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) and Early Childhood Assistants (ECAs) in the daily operations of Mothercraft's new Village Gate Centre for Early Development
  • Ensure services are based on Mothercraft's theoretical frameworks
  • Ensure adherance to polices and procedures, and compliance with all legislative and regulatory standards in order to maintain a high quality of care for children
  • Ensure the children's programs and learning opportunities are based on the Early Years pedagogical framework of How Does Learning Happen and ELECT as set out by the Ministry of Education
  • Provide leadership to the development and implementation of enhanced, responsive and integrated family and child programming in conjunction with staff, a Parent Advisory Committee and the Associate Director
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to recruit, select, hire, and provide training to new employees
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to staff and facilitate staff development through the provision of feedback and annual performance appraisals
  • Provide input into budget development and manage revenue and expenditures in line with the approved budget
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Services Division to arrange necessary support on facility, IT, and HR matters
You will be set up for success if you have...
  • An Early Childhood Education Diploma, BA Degree in Education is an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a childcare setting and 3 years of management experience, including infant/toddler experience
  • Registration with the College of ECE
  • Strong working knowledge of Ministry Licensing regulations, City of Toronto Early Learning and Care Assessment for Quality Improvement, and Child Care and Early Years Act is required
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Standard First Aid & CPR C Certificate
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check
  • Immunizations and health assessment in compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (lbs.)
  • French language skills is an asset
