Location: Sir Wilfrid Laurier

Total Weekly Hours: 28.25 to 37.5 hours weekly

Schedule: Monday to Friday; shifts are scheduled between 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM time frame

Pay Rate (per Collective Agreement, includes wage grants):

  • RECE: $27.72/hr
  • Non-RECE: $25.18/hr

Who We’re Looking For

  • Experience: Minimum of 1-year experience working with children up to 12 years of age
  • Education:
    • Diploma in a field related to childcare such as Early Childhood Education
    • Diploma in Child & Youth Worker, Child and Youth Care, OCT, Education Assistant, Social Worker, or Recreation & Leisure may also be considered
  • Certifications:
    • Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) is preferred but not required
    • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
    • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
    • Up-to-date immunization for TB, Tetanus, and MMR
    • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations

  • Skills: Knowledge of "How Does Learning Happen?" is a valuable asset
  • Characteristics:
    • Willingness to work in an on-call capacity with flexible scheduling
    • Flexibility to take on part-time or full-time schedules
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
    • Flexibility and adaptability to be assigned in multiple locations, with minimal supervision
    • Passion for diversity, equality, and inclusion advocacy
Key Responsibilities:

  • Setting and achieving goals, planning, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate activities that promote children’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s How Does Learning Happen framework
  • Supervising children in your care at all times and ensuring a safe, nurturing environment
  • Organizing indoor and outdoor play areas, creating a welcoming space for all children
  • Conducting daily health checks, maintaining documentation, and addressing any concerns with the Centre Supervisor
  • Collaborating with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board faculty and maintaining positive, professional relationships
