As our Child Youth Worker, you will work as part of a vibrant team to provide care and support to young people living in staffed homes within their community. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • SERVICE TO SUPPORTED PERSONS
    • Gather information relevant to the supported youth’s problems, needs, and risks by interviewing, observing behavior, meeting with caregivers and service providers, and using various inventories, checklists, and questionnaires. Review the information to identify problems, needs, and risks.
    • Develop and implement short-term, issue-specific intervention plans within program guidelines in consultation with the supervisor.
    • Plan, prepare, and conduct group or individual counseling sessions using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, basic group counseling, and psycho-educational group methods to address identified problems and needs.
    • Provide skill-building in areas such as self-care, safety, financial awareness, budgeting, anger management, or self-management techniques.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention plans, report on youth progress, and discuss concerns with the supervisor to resolve issues and achieve objectives.
    • Maintain and record relevant information in youth, staff, and communication logs, and provide reports to supervisors as required.
    • Record medication distribution, weight, and other pertinent information for each youth.
    • Manage and record up-to-date financial records for supported youth and petty cash.
    • Liaise with community service providers, professionals, and school personnel to promote the interests of supported youth.
    • Communicate and update supported youth’s family as needed.
    • Drive and accompany supported youth to meetings and appointments as required.
    • Work with supported youth to ensure their home is well maintained, including daily food preparation and light housekeeping duties.
    • Perform other related duties as required.
  • STAFF AND ORGANIZATION
    • Outline services provided by the organization and provide information or referrals to other community resources as needed.
    • Contribute to the health and safety of the program, including record-keeping of home repairs and participating in OH&S drills and inspections.
    • Participate in staff meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and care conferences as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Grade 12 education or a post-secondary diploma in community social services, youth services, or healthcare.
  • At least one year of recent related work experience in community social services, youth services, or healthcare.
  • Willingness to obtain a Criminal Records Search.
  • Current first-aid and CPR certification.
  • Unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s license; a Class 4 license if driving a commercial vehicle.
  • Qualifications or skills required by licensing bodies or funding agencies.
