Job summary

Nova Counseling Centre in Ontario is seeking an experienced Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Psychologist whose primary focus is working with children and adolescents. Qualifications

  • Master's or doctoral degree in a relevant mental health discipline.
  • Significant experience providing psychotherapy to children and adolescents.
  • Active registration as RP (CRPO) or psychologist (CPBAO) in Ontario.
  • Strong assessment and treatment planning skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with families, schools, and other care providers.

Job description

Nova Counseling Centre is seeking an experienced Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Psychologist whose primary or significant area of clinical practice is working with children and adolescents.

We are looking for a clinician who is passionate about child and adolescent mental health and has substantial experience assessing and treating emotional, behavioural, developmental, and mental health concerns across pediatric populations.

Key Responsibilities

Nova Counseling Centre | Ontario

In-Person / Virtual / Hybrid

  • Provide psychotherapy and counselling primarily to children and adolescents.
  • Conduct developmentally appropriate clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Support children and adolescents experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, ADHD, behavioural concerns, trauma, grief and loss, school-related difficulties, social challenges, and family transitions.
  • Use evidence-informed and developmentally appropriate therapeutic approaches based on the client's presenting needs.
  • Establish strong therapeutic relationships with children and adolescents across different developmental stages.
  • Engage parents and caregivers in treatment when clinically appropriate.
  • Provide parent education, guidance, and practical strategies to support treatment goals and progress.
  • Collaborate with families, schools, physicians, and other members of the client's circle of care when clinically appropriate and with proper consent.
  • Monitor treatment progress and adjust interventions according to the client's developmental and clinical needs.
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to child-protection, safeguarding, and risk concerns in accordance with Ontario law and professional obligations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with applicable professional, ethical, and regulatory requirements.
  • Create a safe, supportive, engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate therapeutic environment.
Qualifications
  • Registered and in good standing as either:
  • a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO); or
  • a Psychologist authorized for autonomous practice with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO).
  • Master's or doctoral degree in an applicable mental health discipline, consistent with the requirements of the candidate's professional registration.
  • Children and adolescents must represent a significant or primary area of the candidate's clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated experience providing psychotherapy to children and adolescents.
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development and developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Experience working collaboratively with parents and caregivers.
  • Knowledge and application of evidence-informed approaches used with children and adolescents.
  • Strong clinical assessment, treatment-planning, communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish therapeutic rapport with children and adolescents across different developmental stages.
  • Understanding of professional, ethical, consent, confidentiality, and safeguarding considerations when working with minors.

Strong Assets
  • Experience supporting children and adolescents with ADHD and other neurodevelopmental concerns.
  • Experience treating anxiety and mood disorders in children and adolescents.
  • Trauma-focused therapy experience.
  • Experience supporting emotional and behavioural regulation.
  • Experience working with autistic children and adolescents.
  • Parent coaching and family intervention experience.
  • Training in CBT, DBT-informed interventions, ACT, play-based approaches, attachment-informed approaches, or other evidence-informed child and adolescent modalities.
  • Experience working collaboratively with schools and other professionals involved in a child's care.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse children and families.
