This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Womens Services - Martha House.

The Child and Youth program is a psycho-educational program designed to support children up to 18 years of age who witness gender-based violence and to provide individual and family counselling addressing the complexities these children face. Our programs often work closely with community stakeholders including schools, other VAW agencies, child welfare and family court systems to develop unique programming for children and women in the VAW programs.

How You Will Make an Impact

The Child and Youth Facilitator will work in collaboration with the Community Support Services LEAF Facilitator and Child and Youth Facilitator to provide group; the incumbent also works with mothers and caregivers primarily in the residential program providing insight on the impacts of woman abuse on children and support with developing healthy meaningful relationships between caregiver and child.

  • Engage children to provide individualized counselling and therapeutic interventions to a diverse range of emotional and physical responses to trauma
  • Communication and coordination with external agencies including joint public education program intakes and program delivery
  • Work alongside frontline case managers to co-ordinate registering children into school programming, CAS directives, etc.
  • Complete an intake and ongoing safety planning safety assessments and goal planning with caregivers
  • Plan and participate in community events and public education opportunities including LEAF
  • Plan and facilitate groups / activities
  • Maintain confidentiality with regards to clients / staff and Centres records
  • Responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd
What You’ll Bring to Our Team
  • Post-secondary education in social services / Child and Youth or related field is required
  • A minimum of one-year experience providing counselling or therapeutics services and supports to children and youth required
  • CPR / 1st Aid is required
  • ASK suicide prevention is an asset
  • A valid Ontario Driver's License is an asset
  • Ability to speak French and / or other languages considered an asset
  • The successful candidate will have a flexible schedule
