Job summary

WoodGreen Community Services is seeking a Child Program Worker for a 7-week casual, full-time position in Toronto. This role involves planning educational activities for children aged 4-12, ensuring their safety, and supporting their development in a community-focused program. Program Overview – After 4 Program, Homeward Bound

The Homeward Bound program is an employment initiative for single mother-led families transitioning from shelter life to self-sustainable community living. The program includes skill development, college, internships, and support for sustainable employment. It also offers affordable housing, on-site daycare, a parenting program, an after-4 program for school-aged children, and full-day programming during March break, summer, and PA days.

What You Will Do
  1. Assist with planning and delivering after-school activities that facilitate educational and life skills development.
  2. Provide spontaneous, age-appropriate activities for children.
  3. Escort children daily from various schools to our location (via walking).
  4. Help prepare and cook healthy snacks.
  5. Assist in overseeing the safety of children during off-site trips and on-site activities (March break, PA Days, Summer break).
  6. Work in accordance with all relevant legislation, by-laws, program, and organizational policies.
What You Bring to the Team
  1. Post-secondary education in child and youth work, social services, education, or child development (preferred).
  2. At least 1 year of experience working with children within the targeted age group.
What Will Set You Apart
  1. Ability to work additional hours on school holidays, including March Break and summer camp.
  2. Knowledge of child development and learning needs of children aged 4 – 12 years.
  3. Experience working with children and parents who have experienced violence or homelessness, and understanding of their unique issues.
  4. Understanding of community development and child-centred approaches.
  5. Ability to work well in a team environment.
  6. Experience working with children with emotional or social challenges.
  7. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  8. Flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Proven ability to work one-on-one with children in a non-judgmental, respectful manner.
  10. First Aid Certification (asset).
