What We are looking for:

This position will provide service to Maternal/Child and Surgery and the primary focus will be Paediatric patients. You will be actively involved in assessment, development and implementation of patient treatment plans. You will function in a patient care area where there is a interdisciplinary and collaborative team approach to patient care. This position will also provide a Paediatric Surgical Preparation Program. Additional areas of responsibility will include supervising volunteers and acting as a Preceptor for College and University students.

What you bring to the role:

• Current membership with Association of Child Life Professionals and designation of CCLS credentials required.
• University Degree in Child related field.
• Minimum 2 years recent experience with a focus in Paediatrics preferred.
• Current experience in mental health services for children and youth preferred.
• Demonstrated recent relevant experience in the assessment of developmental, psychosocial and emotional responses of children to their illness and treatment process in a hospital environment required.
• Demonstrated recent relevant experience in conducting pre-operative assessment as well as preschool/school age hospital tours.
• Demonstrated ability to provide clinical interventions for medical/surgical care and testing utilizing preparation, distraction and/or medical play required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of growth and development with the ability to apply this knowledge to clinical practice.
• Demonstrated ability to promote/facilitate a family centered approach to care.
• Demonstrated strong leadership skills related to child advocacy required.
• Demonstrated experience working with and educating parents related to behavioural management issues.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
• Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to multi task, problem solve and prioritize workload with proven critical and creative thinking skills.
• Works well independently and in a multi-interdisciplinary team environment.
• Good work and attendance record required.

Range: $36.65 - $42.98
