Job summary

The Indigenous Women's Healing Centre seeks a CFS Worker to manage child protection cases by implementing policies from Awasis Agency of Northern Manitoba. This permanent, full-time position requires a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and strong communication skills. Ideal candidates will be committed to community service and knowledgeable about First Nations culture.

Qualifications

POSITION TYPE: PERMANENT, FULL-TIME

The Child & Family Services (CFS) Worker implements the policies, procedures, and specific directives of Awasis Agency of Northern Manitoba when working with families and children in the field of child protection. The duties include responding to community service requests and managing a caseload of protection and voluntary family files. The worker collaborates with Family Enhancement and Foster Care teams, conducts interviews and assessments, follows up on child protection allegations, maintains regular client visits, ensures accurate documentation, develops case plans, and partners with collateral resources.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree with experience in child welfare preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Commitment to community-based service delivery.
  • Knowledge of CFS legislation, standards, and issues is an asset.
  • Experience with Child & Family Services Information System (CFSIS) preferred.
  • A desire to serve the community and work as part of a team to keep children safe.
  • Experience in assessments, interviews, and counseling is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Sensitivity to, and understanding of, First Nations culture and values.
  • Ability to speak and/or understand Cree is an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced office environment.
  • Access to sensitive information requiring confidentiality.
  • Approximately 30% overnight and remote travel.
  • Background checks must meet agency standards.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
