Job summary

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is hiring for a casual Child Care Supply role across multiple Barrie-area locations. You will provide personal care to children, support play-based learning, and maintain a safe, inclusive environment for groups up to 15 children.

Ideal candidates are 18+, have First Aid and CPR Level C, and immunizations per health rules. Availability for irregular shifts, including mornings/evenings, is required. The role offers wellness benefits and a strong team culture.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion within first 90 days of employment.
  • Up-to-date immunizations as per local health guidelines and Child Care Early Years Act.
  • Required availability: at least two shifts per week or two full days with specific-hours window.
  • Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs).
  • Outdoor work for at least 2 hours daily year-round.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care to children including toileting/diapering, first aid, medication administration.
  • Supervise and ensure safety of up to 15 children in a group setting.
  • Plan and implement play-based learning per YMCA Curriculum.
  • Maintain positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers.
  • Create an inclusive environment supporting children with diverse needs.
  • Model behaviours aligned with YMCA Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Follow schedule to maintain group ratios and report scheduling changes.
  • Engage in all duties as assigned.

In this role, you will:
  • Provide personal care to children, including but not limited to toileting/diaper changing, providing first aid, administering medication, monitoring dietary, allergies & medical conditions
  • Actively engage with children and always ensure supervision and safety of children in a group setting of up to 15 children independently
  • Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with YMCA Curriculum
  • Ensure positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis
  • Provide an inclusive environment, supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviours and additional needs
  • Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values
  • Adhere to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provide adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
  • Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules
  • Other duties as assigned
For this role, you bring:
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment
  • Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act
  • Required availability: ongoing for a minimum of one of the following:
    • (a) Two (2) shifts per week, consisting of opening shifts (minimum availability 6:30–9:30 a.m.) and/or closing shifts (minimum availability 2:30–6:00 p.m.); or
    • (b) Two (2) full days per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; or
    • (c) One (1) full day per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., plus one (1) additional opening or closing shift per week, with availability from 6:30–9:30 a.m. (opening) or 2:30–6:00 p.m. (closing)
  • Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities
  • Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
