YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka in Innisfil, ON, Canada, seeks an Assistant Teacher - School Age Float to support before/after school programs. You will assist with care, safety, and play-based learning across locations including Bradford, Innisfil, Lefroy, and others, delivering supervision for groups up to 15 children.

This part-time role requires 18+ years, a valid driver's license, First Aid/CPR, immunizations, and reliable availability Monday to Friday 25 hours weekly with split shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle; travel to multiple locations.
• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) or certification within 90 days.
• Up-to-date immunizations as per local health guidelines.
• Availability: Monday to Friday, 25 hours/week with split shifts (6:30–9:00am; 3:00–6:00pm).
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 kg; outdoor activity required.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to children including toileting/diaper changing and first aid.
• Supervise groups of up to 15 children and ensure safety.
• Plan and implement play-based learning following YMCA curriculum.
• Maintain positive communication with families, staff and volunteers.
• Create an inclusive environment supporting children with diverse needs.
• Adhere to schedules and adjust as needed; notify supervisor of changes.

Position: Assistant Teacher - School Age Float

Status: part-time, September 2026

Intended locations: YMCA Before & After School Programs, locations in Bradford (Hon. Earl Rowe), Innisfil ( Alcona Glen, Holy Cross) , Lefroy (Innisfil Central, Killarney Beach), and other locations in Innisfil as needed

In this role, you will:

• Provide personal care to children, including but not limited to toileting/diaper changing, providing first aid, administering medication, monitoring dietary, allergies & medical conditions
• Actively engage with children and always ensure supervision and safety of children in a group setting of up to 15 children independently
• Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with YMCA Curriculum
• Ensure positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis
• Provide an inclusive environment, supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviours and additional needs
• Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values
• Adhere to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provide adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
• Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules
• Other duties as assigned

For this role, you bring:

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle required; must be able to travel to multiple locations and accommodate last-minute schedule or location changes as needed.
• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment
• Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act
• Availability requirements: Monday to Friday, 25 hours per week, with split shifts approximately 6:30–9:00 a.m. and 3:00–6:00 p.m. (bell times vary by school)on all school instructional days (September to June).
  Hours and shifts are not guaranteed on non-instructional days (e.g., PA days, March Break, Christmas Break, summer) and may be scheduled at a different location.
• Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning
• Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities
• Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
