Job summary

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is hiring an Assistant Teacher Float to support early-childhood learning across all YMCA Child Care & School Age locations in Coldwater, Cumberland Beach, Orillia, Severn, Warminster and more. This full-time role offers dynamic shifts and a chance to contribute to healthy, connected communities.

You will provide direct care, implement play-based learning, and engage with families while maintaining safety and inclusion for all children.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to multiple locations.
• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) or certification within 90 days.
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Immunizations up-to-date per local health guidelines.
• Able to travel to all YMCA locations within the community.
• Availability Monday to Friday, 30–40 hours/week, 7:00am–6:00pm, with split shifts.
• Willingness to work at different locations and adapt schedules.
• Passion for working with children and delivering quality play-based learning.
• Strong communication with families, staff and volunteers.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs).
• Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to children including toileting/diaper changes and first aid.
• Engage with children and supervise a group up to 15.
• Plan and implement play-based learning per YMCA curriculum.
• Maintain positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers.
• Create an inclusive environment supporting children with additional needs.

all YMCA Child Care & School Age locations in Coldwater (Coldwater), Cumberland Beach (Severn Shores), Orillia (Couchiching Heights, Harriett Todd, Lions Oval, Monsignor Lee, Notre Dame, Regent Park), Severn (Marchmont), Warminster (Warminster)

The opportunity:

In this role, you will:

• Provide personal care to children, including but not limited to toileting/diaper changing, providing first aid, administering medication, monitoring dietary, allergies & medical conditions


• Actively engage with children and always ensure supervision and safety of children in a group setting of up to 15 children independently


• Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with YMCA Curriculum


• Ensure positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis


• Provide an inclusive environment, supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviours and additional needs


• Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values


• Adhere to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provide adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes


• Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules


• Other duties as assigned

For this role, you bring:

• Minimum 18 years of age


• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle required; must be able to travel to multiple locations and accommodate last-minute schedule or location changes as needed.


• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment


• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check


• Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act


• Access to reliable transportation that can get you to all locations within the community in a timely manner


• Availability requirement s: Monday to Friday, 30-40 hours per week, between the hours of 7:00am & 6:00pm, including split-shifts


• Flexibility to work at different locations, with changes to schedule on a daily basis as needed


• Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning


• Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities


• Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
