JOB SUMMARY

Directly Operated Child Care Services is responsible for planning and managing the delivery and operations of Child Care programs and services delivered to the community through the Municipal Child Care Centres.

You are responsible for performing general housekeeping duties to maintain a high standard of hygiene in municipal child care centre while placing an emphasis on safety. Work is performed in accordance with corporate, departmental and branch policies, procedures and guidelines, and the Early Years Act.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 10

Minimum of 1 month of experience in institutional housekeeping

KNOWLEDGE
  • Accepted Municipal sanitary practices
  • Ottawa Public Health requirements
  • WHIMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System)
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

  • Meet the required health and hygiene standards
  • Take the initiative to spot clean where necessary
  • Work around the children and their daily program
  • Adhere to schedules and routines

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement:Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
  • Police Record Check:The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
  • Driver’s License Requirement:
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Successful applicants meeting the employer’s qualification standard will be placed on an eligibility list in order of seniority. This list will be used to staff current and ongoing requirements for up to 12 months.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
