Job description

Child Care Assistants are essential members of the daycare team, working closely with and supporting Early Childhood Educators (ECEs). They help ensure proper care by fostering the emotional, physical, social, and cognitive development of children through appropriate activities and programs tailored to each child's unique needs, interests, and developmental stage.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support ECEs in ensuring children's health, safety, and well-being.
  2. Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment.
  3. Use various equipment, activities, and opportunities to promote children’s physical, cognitive, communication skills, and creativity.
  4. Help ECEs create an environment that fosters positive self-concept and individual strengths.
  5. Respect children as individuals, celebrate their successes, and provide support and encouragement, being sensitive to diverse values and expectations.
  6. Promote positive interactions between children and adults, helping develop social skills, empathy, and mutual respect, while setting realistic behavioral expectations.
  7. Assist children with daily routines such as arrival, departure, naps, snacks, and other activities.
  8. Help organize, decorate, and tidy the premises, and prepare and store materials for various programs, activities, or events.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR certification.
  2. Enrolled in or completed the 40-hour program required by the Province of Manitoba (first year).
  3. Experience working with children in related environments is preferred.
  4. Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively interact with children and parents from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  5. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, stand for up to 8 hours, and assist in evacuations during emergencies.
