Job summary

Join a dedicated team as a Child Care Assistant at the Indigenous Women’s Healing Centre's newly renovated daycare. Your role will focus on incorporating Indigenous traditions into a play-based curriculum, nurturing children of varying abilities, and ensuring their safety and development.

Qualifications

  • Recent Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check required.
  • Experience with children with supportive requirements is an asset.
  • Willingness to obtain necessary certifications within a specified timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate Indigenous ways of being into daily programming.
  • Support children in personal hygiene, healthy eating, and physical activity.
  • Maintain a positive, team-oriented approach in a daycare setting.

Skills

Experience working with children of various ages and abilities
Effective communication skills
Ability to lift children up to 20 pounds

Education

Child Care Assistant Certification or willingness to obtain
Current First Aid and CPR Level C training or willingness to obtain
Completion of Kids and Accessibility training
40-hour child development course recognized by ELCC or willingness to obtain

Tools

Knowledge of an Indigenous language
Experience with the Circle of Security framework

POSITION TYPE: FULL-TIME, PART-TIME, CASUAL

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated individual to join our Medicine Children’s Lodge Daycare team at our newly renovated space at 455 McDermot as a Child Care Assistant (CCA). We currently offer Full-Time, Part-Time, and Casual roles.

The chosen CCA will be an energetic, culturally-competent person who incorporates Indigenous ways of being into all aspects of daily programming, including play-based curriculum such as music, art, literature, physical activity, personal hygiene, and healthy eating. The ideal candidate will have a positive, team-oriented approach, and an understanding of how to support children with diverse abilities, loving connecting with all children.

Our center is licensed for 16 spaces (4 infants and 12 preschool-aged children) and is expanding to serve 48 spaces to better support the community. Our hours of operation are from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

What You Bring
  • Experience working with children of various ages and abilities
  • Ability to lift children up to 20 pounds; bend, sit on low chairs, sit on the floor, take walks, play in the playground
  • Child Care Assistant Certification or willingness to obtain
  • Current First Aid and CPR Level C training or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Completion of Kids and Accessibility training prior to starting the position
  • Food Handler’s Certificate or willingness to obtain
  • 40-hour child development course recognized by ELCC or willingness to obtain within one year
  • Experience working with children with supportive requirements is an asset
  • Effective communication skills with adults and children in English; knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset
  • Experience with the Circle of Security framework is an asset
  • A recent Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check (within the past 3 months) are required before starting
