Job summary

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) Infinity Women Secretariat seeks to fill one full-time Child Care Assistant at Little Infinity Child Care Centre, 12 Hawthorne Place, St. Andrews, MB. The role emphasizes care and education for school-age children and delivering Métis-specific programming.

You will help maintain a positive learning environment and support staff, with a focus on Métis culture. Requirements include a 40-hour course, 1 year of experience, First Aid/CPR, and background checks.

Qualifications

• Recognized 40-hour course required
• Minimum of one year experience as Child Care Assistant or equivalent
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Valid 1st Aid/CPR Certification required
• Clear Vulnerable Sector, Criminal Record, and Child Abuse Registry Checks
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture is an asset
• Ability to travel with a Manitoba driver's license

Salary Range: $43,018.00 To $52,954.00 Annually

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The Infinity Women Secretariat (IWS) is a proud affiliate of the MMF whose main purpose is to promote, empower and enhance the social, culture and economic well-being of Métis Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ Individuals.

The IWS seeks to fillone full-time Child Care Assistantpositions within ourLittle Infinity Child Care Centrelocatedat 12 Hawthorne Place inSt. Andrews, MB. This position will primarily support our school-age program. The Child Care Assistant’s primary responsibility is the care and education of children, including supporting age-appropriate activities and assisting in delivering Métis-specific programming and curriculum.

• Maintain a learning environment that is positive, relaxed, pleasant, nurturing, and supports Métis specific curriculum;
• Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment;
• Develop opportunities for children to become stewards of the local environment;
• Support children’s attempts to resolve their problems and differences with others;
• Encourage children to express their feelings and assert their rights in socially acceptable ways;
• Respond to incidents and handle emergencies appropriately if they occur;
• Maintain program equipment and assist in light housekeeping and cooking duties;
• Attend monthly staff meetings to discuss the progress and challenges of children and centre and other discussions as necessary.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Recognized 40-hour course;
• Minimum of one years' experience as a Child Care Assistant or relevant role with demonstrated ability to deliver programs and services;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Dependable, reliable, and punctual;
• Valid 1st Aid/CPR Certification;
• Circle of Security Certificate an asset;
• Clear Vulnerable Sector Check, Criminal Record Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check;
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, heritage, and language an asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
