Job summary

Atira Women’s Resource Society in Surrey, BC is seeking a Part-Time Child & Youth Worker for Katherine's House. You will plan, facilitate and assess activities for children/youth, provide one-to-one and group support, and coordinate with schools for homework and recreational events.

This role serves women residents and requires trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice. You will help with childcare for mothers during appointments, maintain records, and support families moving in or out.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 plus post-secondary training in childcare, or a certificate in a related human/social service field or recreation course.
• 6 months of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• A valid First Aid certificate is required
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificate is required (Atira to provide within 3 months of employment)
• Food Safe required
• All positions are subject to a Criminal Records Review (Paid by Atira)

Responsibilities

• Plan, facilitate and assess developmentally appropriate activities for children/youth.
• Provide one-to-one and group support to children/youth using the CWWA model.
• Organize and facilitate recreational activities for children/youth and their moms.
• Provide group and individual childcare as needed to mothers with appointments or court appearances.
• Keep accurate records, files, log notes & statistics per Atira’s policies.

Education

Grade 12 + childcare training or related post-secondary training

Certificate in related human/social service field or recreation course

Type: Internal & External -Part-Time (Temporary until 2026-12-09) - Subject to recall as per article 13.5 of the Collective Agreement
Hours of Work: Avg 20 hours per week; (Sunday through Tuesday, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with every second Tuesday free from work)
Compensation: $25.55/hr (Wage Grid #9) plus, a generous leave, benefits and pension package
Program & Location: Katherine's House - Surrey, BC
Union: BC Government Employee’s Union (BCGEU) – This position requires union membership

About the Job:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Child & Youth Activity Worker will plan, facilitate and assess developmentally appropriate activities and experiences that promote the well-being of children/youth and that reflects the diverse needs of children/youth. The Child & Youth Activity Worker will provide one-to-one and group support to children/youth, utilizing the CWWA model, facilitate homework clubs and works with the local school as requested, organize and facilitate recreational activities such as communal meals, cultural celebrations, movie nights etc. for children/youth and their moms. In addition, the Child & Youth Activity Worker provides group and individual childcare as required to mothers who may have court appearances, appointments with lawyers, counselors or doctors etc., assists families moving in and moving out, preforms light house-keeping duties, responds to emergency situations, and keeps accurate records, files, log notes & statistical information as per Atira’s practice & policies.

Please note: This program serves individuals who identify and live full time as women, including those who have experienced gender based violence and misogyny.

The presence of women staff is essential to meeting residents’ needs related to safety, dignity, privacy, and effective support.
