Job Type: Full time – Fixed Term Contract
Contract Length: 2 years
Expected Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: $40,000 annually
Do you have a passion for working with children and youth? Are you a creative thinker, with innovative ideas for child and youth development through recreation? If you answered yes to these questions, the North McIntyre Recreation Centre is looking for you! As its first Child and Youth Programs Coordinator, you will bring your education and experience in recreation programming and administration to develop dynamic and interactive programs and activities that foster growth, friendships and community-building among the children and youth in our growing rural community.

Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Programs, Marketing & Facilities Coordinator, the Child and Youth Programs Coordinator will be responsible for developing, facilitating and administering all aspects of child and youth programming at the centre, including:
• Developing, facilitating and administering a variety of dynamic, interactive, and accessible programs and activities for children and youth, and their families where appropriate.
• Implementing and monitoring the program budget; forecast, plan and optimize resources within budgetary constraints.
• Ensuring that programs and activities are delivered in an environment that is inclusive of a variety of cultural backgrounds, traditions and values.
• Performing public relations and outreach, receiving and responding to public inquiries.
• Developing, updating, and implementing safety procedures and ensure standards are met in all programs.
• Coordinating, training, and supervising staff and volunteers to assist with program delivery.
• Supporting the participation of children and youth with disabilities in the program by promoting available resources and liaising with parents/guardians.
• Ensuring that all participants are treated with dignity, fairness, respect, and understanding, involve a parent/guardian where appropriate.
• Collaborating with the Programs, Marketing & Facilities Coordinator regularly to report on budget, programs, share feedback and discuss planning.
• Participating directly in activities to ensure high-quality program delivery.
• Conducting regular program evaluations, incorporating participant and parent/guardian feedback; gather and track statistical and financial data to support reporting and continuous improvement.
• Ensuring adherence to safety guidelines and perform thorough risk assessments for all activities.
• Address any concerns, issues, or compliments by reporting to the Programs, Marketing & Facilities Coordinator in a timely and professional manner.
• Serve as a positive representative and ambassador for the North McIntyre Recreation Centre in the community.
• Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
• Degree or Diploma in Education, Recreation, Social Work, or a related field; and
• Two to five years’ recent experience in recreation programming and administration specifically for children and youth;
• Experience in supervision and leadership of staff and/or volunteers;
• Experience assessing community needs and interests for specific program development.

Skills/Abilities:
• Strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with staff/volunteers, parents/guardians, children and youth, and the community.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate financial records and stay within allocated spending limits.
• Demonstrated good judgement and ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive issues.
• Self starter, ability to work independently with proven organizational skills.
• Creative, dependable, and resourceful, with a passion for child development and inclusive recreation.
• Knowledge of child development principles and practices.
• Cultural competency and awareness.
• Understanding of the recreational needs and interests of children and youth.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Conditions of Employment:
• Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
• Must possess a valid First Aid Certificate and Level C CPR.
• Must be available for irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Must have access to reliable transportation as this location is not served by public transit.
• Must be eligible to work in Canada.
