Job summary

CASA Mental Health is seeking a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for CASA House in Alberta. The role focuses on assessment and treatment for teens with complex mental health and addictions challenges in a live-in setting, with a four-month average stay and family involvement.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team and may participate in family therapy programs; academic appointment opportunity exists with the University of Alberta after credentialing and residency

Qualifications

  • Eligible for RCPSC psychiatry certification.
  • Preference for subspecialty in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSA.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search required.
  • Child Intervention Check required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment and treatment services within a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, therapists, nurses, psychologists, transition support navigators, concurrent counsellors, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists.
  • Participate in the Parent Support Group (PSG) and Multi-Family Therapy (MFT) (optional but would be an asset).
  • Interest in education and supervision of residents and medical students; potential Academic Appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta.

Certification in Psychiatry with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Subspecialty certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta

About the CASA House Program

CASA House is a live-in program for teens who need support with significant mental health and/or addictions challenges. Teens stay at CASA House for an average of four months. The program involves parents and caregivers as active participants in treatment. Treatment includes individual, group and family therapy, social and life skills training, and on-site schooling in small classroom settings.

Job Details

Salary/Wage range: Fee-for-service, supplemented by on-call and administrative sessional payments.

Union: Exempt

Status: Permanent

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist will:
  • Provide assessment and treatment services and contribute to program development within a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, therapists, nurses, psychologists, transition support navigators, concurrent counsellors, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists.
  • Participate in the Parent Support Group (PSG) and Multi-Family Therapy (MFT) (optional but would be considered an asset).
  • Demonstrate an interest in the education and supervision of residents and medical students. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for an Academic Appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Candidates must be eligible for certification in Psychiatry with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with subspecialty certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
  • Following the interview process, selected candidates must successfully complete the credentialing process prior to being appointed as a member of the medical staff.
