Chief Estimator – Sheet Metal

This established renovation and service contractor specializes in serving the commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors in Ontario. The company offers in-house design and fabrication of sheet metal and ducting, including custom ductwork manufacturing, replacements, and retrofits. The opportunity to lead such a team is rare and valuable.

The Chief Estimator – Sheet Metal is responsible for preparing and assisting with comprehensive conceptual and final estimates, developing estimate packages, and focusing work to drive both short- and long-term solutions.

Requirements:

• 15+ years of experience in estimating or related fields.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including guiding and mentoring teams.
• Excellent organizational, team building, and coaching skills.
• Effective communication, persuasion, negotiation skills, and ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Experience with cost-estimating software for preparing quotes and bids.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction, engineering, or a related field; a combination of education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the estimating team, including performance management, training, development, mentoring, and compensation.
• Lead the bid process and develop strategies aligned with the company's vision.
• Handle estimates for various project types including Design Build, Lump Sum, and Construction Management.
• Oversee the preparation and approval of estimates prior to submission.
• Establish unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors, and account for location impacts.
• Evaluate allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation, and contingency.
• Assess company risk and opportunities with clients.
• Present estimates and strategies to management and clients.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in estimating.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
