Rooted in the values of the Catholic church, St. Joseph’s Health Centre of Sudbury (SJHC) faithfully continues the healing mission of Jesus and responds to the needs of the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. Their organizational Values—Dignity, Excellence, Service, and Integrity—inform how they deliver care to those in need.
SJHC currently oversees the operations of four sites with the addition of a fifth site planned for July 2025. Their rehabilitative care hospital operations encompass the 64-bed St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre and a new 72-bed Lasalle site, with 60 beds opened and an additional 12 beds opening in early 2026. The long-term care operations of SJHC encompass the 128-bed St. Joseph Villa, the 128-bed Villa St. Gabriel’s Villa, and an additional 61-bed facility planned for July 2025 that will be replaced by a new 64-bed capital build, currently in the development phase with expected completion in 2027.
To support growth and create succession strength in the organization, SJHC has created a new Chief Operating Officer (COO) position. Reporting to the CEO, the COO will lead the daily operations of Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Planning and Facilities, and Communications. The COO works closely with the CEO and guides the management team to ensure effective execution of the strategic and operational plans to support the organization. The position provides leadership to create streamlined and integrated systems and processes that support and prepare for the expansion of beds and services.
The ideal candidate will possess an advanced post-secondary degree in Finance, Business, Healthcare Management, or a related field. In addition, they will have held progressively senior roles within the healthcare and/or long-term care sectors. Ideally, they will possess an Accounting Designation. They will bring a strategic mindset and be able to articulate and communicate a vision for the organization and their functions. They will possess a collaborative style, with a desire and proven ability to work with leaders across the organization, integrating the unique needs of each of the clinical operations throughout the corporate service functions. They will display a leadership and mentoring style that is inclusive and focuses on building teams and leaders. They will also possess strong business and financial acumen, with an ability to develop short and long-range plans to achieve organizational goals. The new COO will have an appreciation and respect for the Values of the organization and how these values impact care delivery.
