The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a
Chief Geologist to join our team in the Mines Technical Services Department at
Totten Mine in Sudbury, Ontario.
This is a
12-month Fixed-Term position, working onsite Monday to Friday – 8 hour shifts.
As a Chief Geologist you will be responsible for managing and supervising the geology team providing quality and timely geological inputs, resource estimates and drilling programs to support the long range mine design and mid-range planning processes.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Validate all reserve and resource reporting for the mine as the geological Qualified Person ensuring NI43-101 & SEC compliancy for the annual technical report following expected timelines.
- Develop and collaborate on the strategic exploration and definition drilling plan within the mine to optimize and prioritize resources that ensure mine resources and reserves
- Ensure timely and quality geological input is provided for rolling monthly and quarterly forecasts and mid-range production plans
- Review and validate geological mapping quality and drill core logging quality.
- Report and validate mine reconciliations and lead mine to lower dilution and increase ore recovery through existing methods and new initiatives.
- Research, test, and make recommendations on new products and technologies to improve production, reduce costs, or guarantee safety at the mine.
- Supervise, manage, develop, mentor and evaluate the geological team at the mine.
About You
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related field is required.
- P.Geo status in Ontario is required.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of related experience is required including mine geology and diamond drill knowledge.
Skills:
- Proficient in NI 43-101, resource/reserve estimation, geostatistics, minerology, and metallurgy.
- Expertise in Sudbury Basin geology and ore deposits.
- Understanding of underground mining methods, infrastructure design, and rock mechanics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Datamine, Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
- Knowledge of financial assessments (cost distributions, NPV, cash flows, depreciation).
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
