Position Overview

At Big Marble Farms, we grow healthy, sustainable produce year-round using cutting-edge greenhouse and controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) practices. We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive leadership team and guide the financial strategy of our rapidly growing business. The CFO will oversee all financial functions, including planning, reporting, risk management, and capital strategy, ensuring our financial health supports our mission of delivering fresh, high-quality produce to communities across Canada and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Partner with the CEO and executive team to shape the financial and operational strategy that drives growth and sustainability.
• Provide insights on pricing, margins, and cost efficiencies unique to agriculture and greenhouse operations.
• Lead long-term business planning to support expansion of facilities, technology adoption, and distribution networks.

Financial Management

• Oversee financial reporting, accounting, and treasury functions, ensuring accuracy and transparency.
• Develop and monitor budgets for farm operations, capital projects, and future expansions.
• Manage working capital and optimize funding for large-scale agricultural projects, equipment, and infrastructure.
• Implement financial systems and technology to support operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making.

Risk & Compliance

• Manage risk related to commodity pricing, supply chain fluctuations, and energy/utilities usage.
• Liaise with auditors, banks, and regulators, ensuring strong relationships with key financial partners.

Capital & Growth

• Lead capital raising efforts to support growth, including debt, equity, and government funding programs relevant to agriculture and sustainability.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships that align with Big Marble’s strategic goals.
• Engage with investors and stakeholders, providing clear communication on financial performance and outlook.

Team & Culture

• Build and lead a high-performing finance team aligned with Big Marble’s values of integrity, sustainability, and innovation.
• Foster collaboration between finance and operational teams to ensure sound financial practices at every level of the business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field (CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred).
• 10+ years of senior financial leadership, ideally with experience in agriculture, food production, or capital-intensive industries.
• Strong knowledge of corporate finance, risk management, and long-term capital planning.
• Demonstrated success in fundraising and investor relations.
• Experience working with sustainability-focused or growth-stage organizations is an asset.
