Job description

A reputable company is looking for a Chief Financial Officer to start immediately. This position will be reporting directly to the CEO. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the Executive Leadership team, holding primary responsibility for overseeing all financial functions of the organization, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, risk management, and long-term financial strategy.

As a strategic business partner to the CEO and executive leadership, the CFO will be deeply involved in shaping corporate direction, supporting high-impact decisions, and ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization. The CFO will also play a critical role in business growth planning, capital allocation, operational efficiencies, and governance across the enterprise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Planning & Execution
    • Develop and execute the company’s long-term financial strategy aligned with business objectives.
    • Advise the CEO and executive team on financial planning, risk management, and capital allocation.
    • Lead financial scenario modeling and strategic business analysis to support decision-making.
    • Contribute to the development and execution of corporate strategies and growth initiatives.
    • Recommend cost-effective strategies to optimize resource allocation, working capital, and profitability.
    • Plan for capital expenditures and manage debt effectively.
  2. Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
    • Oversee the annual budgeting process and periodic financial forecasts.
    • Partner with business unit leaders to align budgets with strategic priorities.
    • Monitor financial performance and key business metrics to drive accountability.
    • Provide financial input on company operations to optimize costs and efficiency.
    • Anticipate business needs and market trends through proactive financial planning.
    • Ensure timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with Canadian regulations and IFRS.
    • Prepare detailed analysis and reports for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting financial performance and key metrics.
    • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure regulatory and tax compliance.
    • Liaise with external auditors, banks, and financial institutions.
    • Support M&A efforts, including financial due diligence and analysis.
  3. Cash Management & Treasury
    • Manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity planning.
    • Monitor financial performance to identify trends, variances, and opportunities.
    • Oversee corporate banking relationships and financing strategies.
    • Manage the Employee Share Purchase Plan and ensure corporate records are maintained accurately.
    • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
    • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and corporate risk policies.
    • Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures that support strong governance.
    • Support the CEO and Board on financial governance, audit, and risk-related matters.
    • Act as a key financial point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Structure and lead the Finance team for scalability, accountability, and high performance.
    • Set clear goals, monitor performance, and foster continuous development.
    • Provide coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to finance leaders and team members.
    • Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages growth and engagement.

Qualification and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA) is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of financial experience, with at least 5 years in a senior accounting or financial management role.
  • Experience managing multiple legal entities with diverse reporting structures.
  • Experience in the Engineering or related professional services industry is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in managing large-scale budgets, financial planning, and reporting for complex project-based organizations.
  • Expertise in analyzing financial data, interpreting trends, and providing actionable recommendations.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, IFRS, tax regulations, and risk management strategies.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex financial concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and drive strategic change.
  • Excellent execution, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Proven people management skills with the ability to build professional relationships.
  • Results-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential data.

***Our starting salary will be at $180,000 annually; however, the final salary offer will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
