Our client in Waterloo Region is looking for a Chief Facilities Engineer to manage their facilities and build the team!

Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive engineering and facilities maintenance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience with strategic planning, project execution, and preventive maintenance systems.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; experience managing and developing technical teams.
- Solid understanding of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire life safety.
- Proficient in maintenance management systems (CMMS), Microsoft Office Suite, and energy monitoring tools.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends when necessary.
- Experience in a hotel, resort, or hospitality environment preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Capital Projects
- Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive Asset Management Plan to ensure the long-term sustainability and reliability of all building systems and equipment.
- Conduct lifecycle assessments of major assets to prioritize repair, replacement, or refurbishment in alignment with operational goals and financial forecasting.
- Collaborate with ownership and senior leadership to develop multi-year capital plans, integrating engineering insights with business strategy.
- Develop scopes of work, timelines, and budgets for capital projects; oversee bidding and contractor selection.
- Ensure capital projects are executed on time, within budget, and to quality and safety standards.
- Maintain detailed records and reporting tools to support asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and capital reserve planning.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, sustainability innovations, and energy-efficiency opportunities to enhance asset performance and reduce long-term operating costs.
Preventive & Proactive Maintenance
- Design and implement robust preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment, mechanical systems, and building infrastructure.
- Establish SOPs and digital systems for logging, tracking, and analyzing maintenance tasks and equipment performance.
- Proactively identify potential equipment failures and infrastructure vulnerabilities to minimize downtime and disruption.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are compliant with local, provincial, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Assess team skills and identify training needs; develop and deliver growth and development programs.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management of engineering staff.
- Promote a positive and collaborative working environment with a strong focus on service excellence.
Operational Oversight
- Monitor and manage energy usage, water consumption, waste management, and sustainability initiatives.
- Partner with other departments to ensure timely and effective support for operational needs.
- Respond to and resolve emergency situations, ensuring appropriate communication and safety protocols.
- Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and procurement for tools, parts, and materials.
