Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role—preferably within a Chamber or membership-based nonprofit.
  • 3+ years of experience working with a Board of Directors.
  • Valid G driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
  • ACE (Accredited Chamber Executive) designation is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the implementation of the Chamber’s strategic plan and annual goals.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Chamber and its members, local government, and partners.
  • Manage day-to-day Chamber operations, including budget oversight and reporting.
  • Spearhead the planning and execution of high-impact events and programs.
  • Stay informed on legislative and policy issues affecting the business community.

The Port Hope (& District) Chamber of Commerce is looking for an exceptional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to drive our mission forward, champion our members, and guide our organization into its next chapter of growth and impact.

As the face and voice of the Chamber, you’ll serve as a trusted advocate for local businesses, a connector across sectors, and a catalyst for economic vitality in our vibrant community. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you’ll oversee all aspects of Chamber operations—from strategy to service delivery, events to advocacy.

This is more than a leadership role—it’s an opportunity to shape the future of business in the Municipality of Port Hope.

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Drive the implementation of the Chamber’s strategic plan and annual goals
  • Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors and ensure governance best practices
  • Oversee policy development and ensure compliance with bylaws and regulatory standards

Member & Community Engagement

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Chamber and its members, local government, and partners
  • Lead membership recruitment and retention strategies
  • Represent the Chamber at local and regional events, advocating for member needs

Operations & Financial Stewardship

  • Manage day-to-day Chamber operations, including budget oversight, payroll, and reporting
  • Oversee building maintenance and Service Ontario operations
  • Identify and secure funding through grants, sponsorships, and partnerships

Events & Programs

  • Spearhead the planning and execution of high-impact events, business celebrations, and recognition programs
  • Engage volunteers and staff to deliver programming that drives member value
  • Foster meaningful partnerships with community organizations

Advocacy & Public Policy

  • Stay informed on legislative and policy issues affecting the business community
  • Collaborate with provincial and national Chambers on policy development
  • Uphold the Chamber’s role as a thought leader and respected community voice

What You Bring to the Table

  • Post-secondary education in business, nonprofit leadership, community development, or a related field
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role—preferably within a Chamber or membership-based nonprofit
  • 3+ years of experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Deep understanding of stakeholder engagement, fundraising, and community relations
  • Valid G driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • ACE (Accredited Chamber Executive) designation is an asset
