Job summary

State in Vaughan, Ontario is seeking a Chief Estimator who will lead the estimating team, mentor junior estimators, and own detailed estimates for window wall, curtain wall, railing systems, and metal cladding. This full-time role drives bid quality and aligns with project goals.

You will review drawings, manage complex estimates, and collaborate withSales, Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations to deliver winning proposals. On-site presence is expected.

Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree or diploma in architectural technology and construction management.
  • Construction Estimation Certification is an asset.

About The Role

Reports directly to the Director of Estimating. The Chief Estimator is responsible for supporting, guiding and mentoring Estimators and managers on day-to-day activities to help deliver a strong bid proposal.

Duties are responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the Director of Estimating in mentoring and supporting the Estimating Team to balance workloads;
  • Supports the Director of Estimating in setting priorities, schedules and resource planning;
  • Oversee preparation of detailed Estimates for all scopes;
  • Support the Team in reviewing drawings and specifications;
  • Participate in complex or high value Estimates as a technical resource;
  • Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Engineering, Procurement and Operations to support the alignment of the Estimates with the Estimating Team;
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and value engineering discussions;
  • Support handoff from Estimating to Project Teams upon award;
  • Identify opportunities to improve Estimating efficiency, accuracy and consistency;
  • Support development and maintenance of Estimating databases, assemblies and historical cost data;
  • Support team with evaluating project risks, exclusions, clarifications and assumptions;
  • Assist in post-bid and post project reviews to improve future estimates;
  • Coach and develop Estimators through training and feedback;
  • Support a collaborative, accountable and high performance team culture; and
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Director of Estimating.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Architectural Technology and Construction Management; and
  • Construction Estimation Certification is an asset.
Years of Experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of working experience in Estimating Window Wall, Curtain Wall, Railing Systems and Metal Cladding; and
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience supervising a team within an Estimating or Construction environment.
