CHIEF ENGINEER – MAJOR

Locations: Tsawwassen and Nanaimo (Travel with vessel required)

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking applications from individuals interested in the Shipboard Management position of Chief Engineer, Major at Tsawwassen/Nanaimo.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Chief Engineer, you will add value in the following key areas:

  1. Ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the ship's propulsion and power systems.
  2. Monitoring, maintaining, and documenting the condition of the ship's structure.
  3. Planning, directing, and implementing regular emergency repairs and alterations, and assisting with the overall drydock and refit program.
  4. Planning, directing, and organizing assignments of the watch crew to work on machinery that may alter the performance of the vessel.
  5. Supervising a comprehensive vessel engineering maintenance program, including inspecting the appearance, condition, and function of all onboard equipment.
  6. Liaising with regulatory bodies regarding ship inspections and conducting engineering crew inspections to ensure awareness and compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  7. Making operational judgments based on mechanical capability and conditions.
  8. Leading, directing, and training crews, and conducting regular drills in response to fire, safety, confined spaces, evacuation, and other emergency situations.
  9. Assisting the Engineering Superintendent in developing and implementing safety, operational, and employee performance improvements and efficiencies.
  10. Ensuring security compliance with the vessel security plan, applicable legislation, regulations, and company policies; conducting security equipment inspections and audits as required, and reporting and correcting deficiencies.
  11. Performing other duties as required.

Additional information

The target salary range is $135,600 - $150,700 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience, and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on an exceptional basis.
