As the technological spin-off of Solar Impulse, the first electric airplane to fly around the world, the mission of H55 is to make aviation clean, safe, and affordable.

The company’s strengths and competencies lie in developing propulsion and energy storage solutions which are modular, lightweight, and certifiable.

Having integrated and flown 4 electric airplanes, the Swiss start-up has been selected by Pratt & Whitney Canada to provide the battery pack for its regional hybrid-electric flight demonstrator. This recent announcement is a further illustration of H55’s position as a major enabler in the electric commuter market.

At H55, you will work with a very forward-looking team who are changing the paradigms of air transportation. H55 is composed of highly experienced engineers, entrepreneurs, and managers and is seeking like-minded talented professionals who understand how to couple creativity and innovation with technical and business considerations.

Your Role

As part of our Engineering team, we are looking to hire a Chief Engineer for the Battery system to work on our client project. You will be reporting to the Head of Design Organisation (HDO).

The Chief Engineer’s perimeter is covering system to parts (up to electronic board or software) and has the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Responsible to deliver the overall solution for a system or sub-system; on time, cost, and quality.
  • Responsible for the overall architecture, including the management of all product trades and new technology introduction.
  • Responsible to ensure the design meets all requirements.
  • Responsible for the certification, qualification, and testing strategy.
  • Responsible for product change management.
  • First technical point of contact for the program manager, management, and the customer throughout the life of the product.
  • Chair and facilitate milestone reviews.
  • You are supported by the PMOs in the creation and maintenance of schedules.
  • Approve configured baseline for production (system shipset).

Your experience

  • Demonstrated experience in highly regulated domains like Aerospace or Automotive, with Battery systems (5+ years).
  • University degree in a relevant engineering discipline (System Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Power Electronics, Energy Systems).
  • Part of the Order of Engineers of Quebec or able to subscribe.
  • Thorough knowledge of the involved engineering disciplines, particularly linked to Battery systems.
  • Leadership experience in technical or team management, or natural leadership capabilities coupled with the desire to grow and put them in practice.
  • Broad knowledge of other engineering disciplines, HW/SW development, mechanical engineering to assess/coordinate the product development cycle on a high level.
  • English and French at advanced level.
