Overview

General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada (GDMS-C) is hiring for a Chief Engineer for our Air & Naval business. This role you will be responsible for providing expert technical leadership for all aspects of the A&N program execution lifecycle including phase specific measurement, bid and proposal support, system definition and design activities, software / hardware development and system verification and validation. They will be capable of translating short, medium and long-term strategic engineering and business objectives into defined action plans and collaborating with program teams to ensure their realization. The successful candidate will report to the Vice President Engineering with joint accountability to the Vice President Air & Naval Systems.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent reviews of A&N programs providing teams with expert Engineering guidance and support
  • Collaborate with business and technology leaders to define and maintain technology roadmaps aligning our capabilities with emerging market needs
  • Support engineering resourcing and staffing requirements to ensure programs are executed to planned cost and schedule requirements
  • Monitor customer research solicitation for R&D proposing and supporting teams in responding to growth and technology capabilities
  • Provide technical guidance during the bidding process and review and assess risk to ensure requirements can be met
  • Represent GDMS in direct customer or other stakeholder engagements as required
  • Grow the engineering capability within GDMS and provide coaching and mentorship to technical and program resources
Qualifications
  • A four-year university degree in Engineering. A post-graduate degree in Engineering is highly desired.
  • Significant related Engineering experience on a variety of programs / projects
  • Significant technical and people leadership experience
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong initiative to resolve problems and develop creative solutions
  • Business acumen with the ability to comprehend and prioritize the financial implications of decisions made
  • Familiarity with Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) sonar systems and underwater acoustics is desirable.
