Qualifications

Description

We are hiring a Chief Engineer!

We are currently seeking a Chief Engineer to join our amazing team at Concord Hospitality's Dual branded Hilton Garden Inn & Homewood Suites Ottawa Downtown! This is an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in property engineering, leadership, and preventative and reactive maintenance.

The Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton Ottawa Downtown, conveniently situated in downtown Ottawa, is steps from Parliament Hill with light rail transit transportation at the hotel’s front door for easy access to many points of interest including festival venues. The hotel features 171 extended-stay guest rooms under the Homewood Suites by Hilton banner and 175 units providing short-stay accommodations under the Hilton Garden Inn banner with a total of 4,500 square feet of conference space, a bar, restaurant, pool and fitness facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the hotel's Maintenance Department and contribute to a positive work environment.
  2. Collaborate & communicate effectively with all hotel departments, building/management representatives, internal/external contractors and vendors.
  3. Source vendors for parts, equipment, and contract labour where applicable.
  4. Be the champion of hotel sustainability practices.
  5. Active member of the hotel's Health & Safety Committee, ensuring compliance with government regulations and maintaining a safe environment for all to enjoy.
  6. Always provide the highest quality of service to guests, setting an example for all hotel associates.
  7. Schedule, train, motivate, and develop the Maintenance Team. Provide ongoing coaching, feedback and conduct employee reviews. It is important that the Chief Engineer understands all functions of his/her staff and can complete those functions in the associate’s absence.
  8. Develop and ensure the fulfilment of preventative maintenance program specific to each hotel's brand standards.
  9. Maintain a work order assignment program for completed and pending work orders. Prioritize and complete work orders in a timely manner. Monitor all deficiencies. Communicate with the requesting party upon completion when needed. Keep records of all completed maintenance tasks.
  10. Manage & Repair HVAC systems and appliances as required.
  11. Ensure key control policies and procedures are being adhered to.
  12. Ensure routine preventive maintenance and maintenance repair on equipment, property (internal and external) and other assets are completed.
  13. Ensure swimming pool and spa maintenance duties are performed according to manufacturer specifications and local Health Department Regulations.
  14. Maintain the hotel grounds; curb appeal and building exteriors consistently.
  15. Develop and implement plans to ensure that the Quality Assurance Program for each brand criteria are met.
  16. Coordinate fire alarm testing/drills and conduct other safety inspections throughout the property.
  17. Educate and lead all department personnel on emergency procedures, key control, safety, and life safety precautions.
  18. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and building codes.
  19. Conduct quality inspections of completed tasks.
  20. Oversee inventory management, department budgeting, safety controls, annual certifications/licenses.
  21. Respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly.
  22. Comply with hotel policies and procedures to ensure brand standards are always adhered to.
  23. Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the hotel industry.
  3. Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  4. Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  5. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  6. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Ability to work well under pressure.
