Job description

About KOHO

We’re on a mission to make financial services better for every Canadian. That means no hidden fees, no predatory interest rates - just financial products designed to help our users spend smart, save more, and build real wealth. We’re a performance organization with a strong heart: we care deeply about outcomes, and everything ties back to our mission - to financially empower a generation of Canadians.

At KOHO, we’re not your average 9-5. We believe real impact comes from people who are trusted, empowered, and supported to do their best work - without sacrificing their lives to do it. We prioritize work-life integration, not just work-life balance. That means asynchronous collaboration, flexible hours, and a remote-first setup built around autonomy and high trust.

KOHO is entering its next chapter - leaner, smarter, more AI-integrated. We’re building for impact, not bureaucracy. If you thrive in environments that value clarity, ownership, and bold thinking, you’ll fit right in.

About This Role

As KOHO’s Chief Compliance Officer, you will lead and evolve our compliance program to meet and exceed regulatory obligations while enabling innovation and customer impact. In this hands-on leadership role, you will oversee regulatory relationships, internal compliance strategy, and operational risk management frameworks, establishing and maintaining the bank’s regulatory compliance and privacy programs in alignment with OSFI guidelines, Canadian banking regulations, and applicable privacy legislation. You’ll leverage deep compliance expertise and a strong understanding of relevant regulatory requirements—while partnering cross-functionally across product, legal, risk, operations, and engineering to support safe and sustainable business growth.

What You'll Be Doing:

Regulatory Compliance Leadership

  • Develop and implement a compliance management program aligned with OSFI’s Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) Framework and banking industry standards.

  • Provide regular compliance reporting to the CEO, CRO, Board, and regulators.

  • Lead interactions with OSFI, FINTRAC, FCAC, privacy commissioners, and other regulatory bodies.

Privacy Oversight

  • Lead KOHO’s Privacy Program, ensuring compliance with PIPEDA and applicable provincial laws.

  • Implement privacy impact assessments for new products and initiatives.

  • Maintain breach response protocols, incident reporting, and privacy training programs.

Parent–Subsidiary Relationship Management

  • Define clear compliance responsibilities between the bank and KOHO Financial Inc.

  • Formalize service level agreements for compliance-related services from KOHO.

  • Maintain regulatory independence while leveraging parent company resources responsibly.

OSFI Guideline Implementation

  • Oversee implementation and monitoring of key OSFI guidelines across all banking operations.

  • Establish testing procedures to validate regulatory adherence.

  • Identify emerging regulatory and privacy requirements and develop implementation strategies.

Compliance Team Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing compliance and privacy team that scales with growth.

  • Develop robust training programs for bank staff and leadership.

  • Foster a strong risk and compliance culture across the organization.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation

  • Conduct regular compliance and privacy risk assessments across operations.

  • Develop and execute mitigation strategies for identified vulnerabilities.

  • Establish early warning indicators for potential compliance or privacy issues.

  • Coordinate with Risk Management and Internal Audit for integrated oversight.

Who You Are:

  • You have 10+ years of experience in financial services compliance, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • You have a strong understanding of OSFI’s RCM Framework and deep expertise in Canadian regulatory requirements, including PCMLTFA, FINTRAC, FCAC, and privacy legislation such as PIPEDA.

  • You’ve worked in regulated fintech, neobank, or direct-to-consumer financial institutions.

  • You’ve successfully led compliance programs through periods of rapid growth and regulatory scrutiny.

  • You’re a strong communicator and a credible voice with regulators, executives, and board members.

  • You combine a strategic mindset with a hands-on, practical approach to execution.
You’re passionate about innovation, inclusion, and empowering financial wellness.
