Job summary

The United Nations seeks a Chief, Climate Change Section for ICAO-related climate work, based in Montreal, Canada. The role leads and manages work programmes to reduce aviation greenhouse gas emissions and their climate impact, aligning with global regulatory frameworks and UN climate objectives.

You will build international partnerships, coordinate cross‑agency collaboration, and represent ICAO at UN meetings when required to advance climate leadership.

• Lead integrated analysis, planning, delivery, assessment and reporting of climate change related projects and activities.
• Build and strengthen partnerships with international and regional organizations and industry to address global climate change issues.
• Represent ICAO at UN and other UN agencies’ meetings when required, enhancing ICAO leadership in climate change discussions.

Function 1 (incl. Expected results)

Leads and manages work programmes related to ICAO global regulatory framework to reduce the adverse environmental impact of aviation greenhouse gas emissions on the global climate, achieving results such as:

• Take the lead in integrated, comprehensive and timely analysis, planning, delivery, assessment and reporting of climate change related projects and activities.
• Build and stimulate partnerships and cooperation with other international organizations, regional organizations and industry that result in combined efforts to address global climate change issues.
• Represent ICAO at UN and other UN agencies’ meetings, if required, enhancing recognition of ICAO leadership in climate change discussion.
