The incumbent is responsible for performing chemical analysis on food, pharmaceutical or other samples.

Knowledge & Skill
This position requires a basic level of knowledge in both wet and instrumental chemistry procedures to perform analysis on sample. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to process client data. The incumbent needs a basic knowledge of analytical chemistry to perform analysis procedures. Manual dexterity is needed to manipulate samples where required. A basic knowledge of personal computers is useful to accurately enter testing data and results. Analytical skills are necessary for completion of tasks within the department. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Planning skills are useful to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified time.
Job Complexity
This position requires precise measurement to be made to obtain accurate results. Difficulties are similar in nature and require a routine process to locate the source of the problem. Incorrect or unique results require the analysis of procedures and instrumentation to determine the source of the problem. Data is available from previous experience and federal guidelines to solve problems that may occur. Instrumentation is sensitive to daily use and requires preventative maintenance. Unique problems can be solved using sample guidelines or published data to locate the difficulty in the instruments or the process used in the analysis.
Decision Making or Recommendations
Recommendations are made to the supervisor regarding procedural changes or suggestions. Standard Operating Procedures and federal guidelines establish standards from which solutions can be implemented. Factual data is used to make recommendations that will affect the efficiency of the work unit. Mistakes are identified and easily corrected from the recommendation of the supervisor.
Accountability
The incumbent receives regular supervision. The incumbent is responsible for following proper departmental policies and procedures to ensure the correct analysis of samples. The incumbent works toward specific goals and targets established by the incumbent with authorization from the supervisor. Work is reviewed by the supervisor on a daily basis as results are obtained.

The pay range for this role is $19-$22 hourly CAD.
