We are looking for a Chemistry Technician in 90 Gough Rd, Markham, ON L3R 5V5 CAN. Your mission will be to:

Purpose of Job:
The incumbent is responsible for performing chemical analysis on food, pharmaceutical or other samples.

Job Duties

1. Composting and grinding of samples for analysis as required.
2. Perform chemical analyses such as protein, moisture, fat, ash, and other components.
3. Prepare sample for analysis according to procedure. Retrieve samples from designated areas (e.g. log-in, sample storage).
4. Perform chemical analyses of macronutrients, micronutrients or other parameters as designated.
5. Extract desired component from sample with appropriate processes so that concentration can be determined.
6. Prepare standards and reagents that are needed for the analysis procedure.
7. Write/label all samples throughout the process so that Client and sample numbers can be tracked.
8. Perform calculations, checking and interpretation of results where applicable.
9. Track status of designated tests as assigned to ensure Client turn around time commitments are met and inform supervisor of non compliance.
10. Assist other departmental personnel with analysis tasks so that testing can proceed according to specified time limits.
11. Update logbooks, transfer data and maintain records, including quality records for the specified tests, notify supervisor of any non compliant results.
12. Perform necessary housekeeping duties in a timely manner, keeping the work areas and equipment clean and sanitized.
13. Must participate in cleaning schedule and maintain retain samples as required.
14. Train analysts where required and participate in the training programs.
15. Perform necessary preventative maintenance on instrumentation according to identified schedules.
16. Clean and prepare glassware for future analysis use.
17. Ensure material/supplies are maintained and available for the next analysis including preparation of reagents where applicable.
18. Coordinate with other department personnel with analysis tasks to maintain smooth flow of work.
19. Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.
20. Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process, including participation in monitoring of quality parameters as assigned, and performance of necessary tasks related to quality control parameters for the test being performed.
21. This position has the responsibility and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed complaint system and supervisor is notified.
22. Responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the quality management system.
23. Adhere to all safety policies.
24. Perform other related duties as needed.

Must have weekend availability.

Knowledge & Skill
This position requires a basic level of knowledge in both wet and instrumental chemistry procedures to perform analysis on sample. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to process client data. The incumbent needs a basic knowledge of analytical chemistry to perform analysis procedures. Manual dexterity is needed to manipulate samples where required. A basic knowledge of personal computers is useful to accurately enter testing data and results. Analytical skills are necessary for completion of tasks within the department. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Planning skills are useful to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified time.

Job Complexity
This position requires precise measurement to be made to obtain accurate results. Difficulties are similar in nature and require a routine process to locate the source of the problem. Incorrect or unique results require the analysis of procedures and instrumentation to determine the source of the problem. Data is available from previous experience and federal guidelines to solve problems that may occur. Instrumentation is sensitive to daily use and requires preventative maintenance. Unique problems can be solved using sample guidelines or published data to locate the difficulty in the instruments or the process used in the analysis.

Decision Making or Recommendations
Recommendations are made to the supervisor regarding procedural changes or suggestions. Standard Operating Procedures and federal guidelines establish standards from which solutions can be implemented. Factual data is used to make recommendations that will affect the efficiency of the work unit. Mistakes are identified and easily corrected from the recommendation of the supervisor.

Accountability
The incumbent receives regular supervision. The incumbent is responsible for following proper departmental policies and procedures to ensure the correct analysis of samples. The incumbent works toward specific goals and targets established by the incumbent with authorization from the supervisor. Work is reviewed by the supervisor on a daily basis as results are obtained.

The pay range for this role is $19-$22 hourly CAD.
