Job Title: Chemistry Research Associate
Location: Halifax, NS Canada (Must be willing to relocate to Ontario region)
About Us:
Myomar Molecular is a fast-growing Canadian biotech company redefining muscle health diagnostics through innovative urine-based testing. Our mission is to advance early detection and monitoring of muscle decline using cutting-edge biomarker and metabolite analysis. With growing clinical partnerships and a strong scientific foundation, we are expanding our R&D capabilities.
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Chemistry Scientist with expertise in nanoparticle chemistry and assay development to join our dynamic R&D team. You will play a key role in developing and optimizing functionalized nanoparticles and fluorescence-based assays for detecting muscle-related metabolites in biological samples.
Key Responsibilities:
· Design, synthesize, and characterize functionalized nanoparticles for biosensing applications
· Develop and optimize fluorescence-based assays for small molecule detection
· Conduct analytical validation of assays in urine and other biological matrices. Experience with ISO and CLSI guidelines.
· Collaborate with academic partners and cross-functional teams
· Document experimental protocols, results, and support patent filings
· Contribute to scientific publications and regulatory submissions
Qualifications:
· M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Nanotechnology, or related field
· Hands-on experience with nanoparticle synthesis (e.g., gold nanoparticles)
· Strong knowledge of fluorescence spectroscopy, assay kinetics, and binding chemistry
· Experience working with biological fluids (urine, serum, saliva) is an asset
· Comfortable in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment
· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
· Aptamer-based assay development and strong understanding of nucleic acid molecule interactions
· Fluorescence and colorimetric assay design for small molecule detection
· Gold nanoparticle synthesis and surface functionalization
· Familiarity with lateral flow assay assembly, including membrane spotting, pad treatment, and blocking agents
· Skilled in assay buffer optimization, including pH and salt condition tuning for optimal flow and binding performance
What We Offer:
· Opportunity to impact global muscle health diagnostics
· Equity participation through Myomar’s Employee Stock Option Plan (eligible after 12 months, based on performance)
· A collaborative, purpose-driven scientific team with a commitment to innovation
Add these questions to your cover letter and/or CV:
1) Briefly describe your hands-on experience with developing assays for small molecule detection in a biological fluid. 2) What experience do you have working with complex biological fluids (eg. urine or serum)?
3) Do you have hands-on experience with nanoparticles, aptamers, or ELISA-based assays? If yes, briefly describe your role and the application.
How to Apply: Send your resume and a brief cover letter to Ryan Marshall (rmarshall@myomarmolecular.com) with the subject line "Chemistry Scientist Application – Nanoparticle & Assay Development"
